Upcoming Switch Turn-Based RPGs 2020 - Part 1

More and more are the games that have landed and that will soon land on Nintendo Switch. It seems that RPGs are naturally attracted to this console and therefore it seemed right to me to start dedicating some space of our blog (which has so far dealt mainly with PC games) to this fantastic console.

Today, in fact, our radars are facing the 2020 releases for Nintendo Switch. We are obviously talking about turn-based, strategic and RPG games. As with all our lists, each game is accompanied by an image, a description, also by clicking on the image, you will be directed to our youtube channel for the game trailer.

I decided to divide this list into several articles to avoid endless articles and make the same more usable and streamlined. This is the first part, the others will be published soon.

Before starting, however, I invite you to subscribe to our newsletter, to our youtube channel born a few months ago and above all to leave your comment or suggestion to help us improve day by day. No more talking, and let’s start right away with our list of the most interesting turn-based strategy/RPGs coming to Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Empire of Sin

Empire of Sin

Manage a criminal empire and achieve your goals in any way. These are the premises of Empire of Sin. Turn-based strategy developed by Romero Games, which combines the management phase with that of XCOM-style turn-based combat. Its release is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2020.

Warborn

Warborn Pc

Turn-based strategy game developed by Raredrops Games reminiscent of Advance Wars but with giant Mechs. We will be able to choose between 4 commanders, each with their own skills and their own single-player campaign. In addition to the single-player mode, there is also a Skirmish and multiplayer mode together with a map editor. Its release date is set for Spring 2020.

Wintermoor Tactics Club

Wintermoor Tactics Club Gameplay

Something that immediately recalls the great classic Final Fantasy Tactics in a sort of fairytale key. The game developed by EVC tells us about Alicia’s events in a famous academy, Wintermoor. We will meet 7 characters, each with their own unlockable skills through the over 40 missions of the single-player campaign. Its release date is set for 2020 but without a precise date yet.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia

Brigandine

This is one of the Switch games that fascinates me most. The first Brigandine, was born in 1998, developed by Hearty Robin exclusively for Playstation to then receive a remake a few years later always as Sony exclusive. Legend of Runersia will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive that will see us protagonists in a world divided into 6 warring factions. The release is scheduled for June 25, 2020.

1971 Project Helios

1971 Project Helios

A turn-based strategy that we follow as announced also for PC, it is a tactical strategy developed by Recotechnology S.L. in which we will guide 8 characters, each driven by their own motivations to save Dr Margaret Blythe. During the course of the adventure, we will find new equipment that will unlock new skills and we will also have to keep our stocks of fulgor under control, a material that will allow us to survive in the cold world in which the game is set. 1971 Project Helios is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

Cris Tales

Cris Tales

After trying the PC demo of the Dreams Uncorporated & SYNK Jrpg, I can also unbalance myself by saying that we are facing a small masterpiece here. A unique graphic style and above all the original combat mechanics. In fact, in the combat phase we can move between the future and the past to find the weak points of the enemies and even during the exploration time will play a fundamental role. I, therefore, recommend everyone to keep an eye on Cris Tales coming out on July 31, 2020.

Grand Guilds

Grand Guilds

A tactical RPG that recalls the great titles of the past such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. After an ultra-positive Kickstarter campaign, the title developed by DRIX STUDIOS follows the adventures of Eliza who will have to unmask conspiracies to avoid a bloody war. The peculiarity of Grand Guilds is the clever mix of tactics (positioning of units, exploitation of heights) and mechanics from card games. Grand Guilds is set for the 26th of March 2020.

The Last Spell

The Last Spell

A roguelite who will put himself in the shoes of a group of heroes who will have to save the last bastion of humanity from hordes of monsters. This is the basic concept behind this promising turn-based tactical RPG developed by CCCP (creators of Dead in Vinland). We will have to build walls, traps, and towers to counter the wave of monsters that will assault in order to protect the circle of magic. With each defeat (several are expected) we will come out stronger by unlocking new skills. The Last Spell is expected sooner or later in 2020 but we don’t have a precise date yet.

Bravely Default II

Bravely Default II

The successor to one of the most popular RPG released in Japan in the distant 2012. Bravely Default II offers a new story and new characters unrelated to the episodes of the first chapter. Developed by Team Asano (creators of the first chapter and Octopath Traveler), this new chapter is expected to arrive this year but there is still no precise release date.

With this ends the first part of our list dedicated to upcoming turn-based strategy/RPGs for Nintendo Switch. The list is missing both Langrisser I & II and Alder’s Blood recently released. In the next days, we will publish the second part. Before leaving, however, I would like to remind you to leave a comment to let us know what you think of these games and that if you prefer we also have a video version of this list, on our youtube channel that I invite you to follow.

Thanks and good game.

    • Thanks for your message. Slowly we would like to talk about all the consoles, unfortunately, for now, there are not many of us writing on the blog.
