Ubisoft is reportedly expanding the Rainbow Six franchise into new territory with a turn-based tactics game currently in development. According to a new report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, the project is set to draw heavy inspiration from the XCOM series, marking a significant departure from Rainbow Six’s traditional first-person shooter formula. Players will control multiple operators, each boasting unique skills, across a 25–30 hour campaign, with the game reportedly targeting a release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and potentially the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
While Rainbow Six Siege continues to thrive nearly a decade after launch, Ubisoft appears eager to diversify the franchise’s appeal. Sources familiar with the project describe it as an “updated version” of XCOM, complete with cinematic cutscenes and deep tactical decision-making, suggesting a strong narrative focus alongside strategic gameplay.
While Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm the title, the timing is notable. Rainbow Six Siege is set for a major rebrand this June as Rainbow Six Siege X, ushering in significant gameplay overhauls and a shift to a free-to-play model. If the rumors hold true, Rainbow Six fans could be looking at a landmark year for the franchise, with innovation on multiple fronts poised to redefine the series’ future.
