As We Descend, the apocalyptic deckbuilding roguelite from Box Dragon and Coffee Stain Publishing, is now set to launch into Early Access on Steam on May 28, 2025. Originally slated for release today, the studio has opted to delay the launch to refine the game further. Set in a bleak future where players must defend the last city of humankind, As We Descend blends card-based combat with branching political narratives and evolving relationships that shape a decaying world.

In this unique twist on the genre, players will command expedition forces, navigate feudal alliances, and confront monstrous threats. The gameplay is enriched by deep decision-making systems, allowing for emergent narratives shaped by the city’s unraveling state and the player’s alliances. The game continues Coffee Stain Publishing’s streak of impressive titles, following hits like Valheim and Deep Rock Galactic.

Alongside the new release date, Box Dragon has also updated the Steam demo to support 11 new languages, including French, Japanese, and Ukrainian—bringing the total supported at launch to 14. “Now is the perfect time to try the game out if you haven’t already,” said Game Director Kevin Chang. “We’ve got big plans, and the Early Access launch will be just the beginning.” Below the latest trailer available.
