It had been a while since I’d heard any new updates about Forge of the Fae, one of the most interesting JRPG-inspired titles, one that will likely bring to mind Sea of Stars, Chained Echoes, or, even more so, the classic SNES-era RPGs.

But finally, Deck13 Spotlight and Datadyne have shared a new look at it, the upcoming pixel art RPG inspired by Celtic folklore and classic Japanese role-playing games. The latest update is tied to a meaningful milestone for the project, with an alpha build now in the hands of selected Kickstarter backers, giving some early supporters access to roughly the first third of the adventure.

The new trailer leans into what has made the game stand out so far, with a stronger look at its handcrafted environments, enemy encounters, boss fights, spell effects, and combat presentation.

Forge of the Fae

Set in a world shaped by 1800s Ireland, Forge of the Fae follows Fiora, a young inventor caught in a broader conflict between humans and fae. The story mixes political unrest with fantasy mystery. A miners’ strike turns violent, mercenaries are brought in, and disappearances begin to pile up in the middle of the chaos.

It is still clearly drawing from the old school JRPG playbook, but the setting gives it a different identity than the usual crystal kingdoms and medieval fantasy towns. Choices also appear to play a real role in how Fiora’s story unfolds, which could give the narrative more weight than a straightforward linear quest.

The combat is built around its ARC Crystal System and Adrenaline mechanics. A system built on skill and spell synergy, combo abilities, elemental interactions, and special moves that can be triggered without spending a full turn while puzzle solving also remains part of the core structure, with exploration tied to hidden lore, items, and progression through the world.

The project has been on a steady upward path since Deck13 Spotlight picked it up for publishing last year, and the extra support seems to be helping Datadyne push the production further.

Publicly, the current release window remains 2027 for PC and consoles, while a free demo is already available on Steam for players who want an early taste of the setting and combat systems. Below is the new trailer.
