Shadow of the Road has introduced another member of its war-torn party, and this one looks built to stand in the middle of a fight and make a mess of anything that gets too close.
Developer Another Angle Games and publisher Owlcat Games have released a new character spotlight for Ishida, a frontline bruiser described as the team’s main tank in the upcoming tactical RPG.

Known as Ishida “the Boulder,” he is exactly the sort of character that sounds like trouble in the best way, as He draws enemy attention, protects allies, and hits back with the kind of force that makes subtlety feel pointless.
From headbutts and bear hugs to fearless charges and sweeping strikes with a gigantic nōdachi. And because Shadow of the Road is not interested in keeping things strictly historical, Ishida is not just cutting through human soldiers but also built to crush yōkai and mechs.

Set during the Bakumatsu period, the game throws players into a version of feudal Japan caught between tradition and rapid change, with the Tokugawa Shogunate clashing against the supporters of Emperor Mutsuhito.
Mythological creatures, experimental machinery, and personal loyalties share the same battlefield.
The story follows a mission led by Tokugawa’s spymaster, who recruits ronin warriors Satoru and Akira to protect a boy with immense and unstable power. As the journey grows more dangerous, more companions join the group, each carrying their own past, motives, and baggage.

Owlcat and Another Angle Games are pitching a party-driven tactical RPG where choices matter, relationships shift, and characters can grow closer or drift apart depending on how events unfold.
Earlier spotlights have already introduced Akira, Satoru, and Asuke, so Ishida is the latest part of a roster that is slowly starting to show its shape. There is also already a demo available on Steam for Windows PC, which should give players a better sense of how this fusion of turn-based tactics, political conflict, and supernatural weirdness actually feels in motion.
