The Dead Await has rolled out its biggest Early Access update yet, Act II: Origins & Base Building, which is live now.

The update adds a full base-building system on top of the game’s card-driven, open-world survival loop, and arrives alongside a limited-time 30% discount on the base game.

Positioned as a major content drop, Act II continues the campaign and introduces settlement construction and management as a core layer.

That fits the design arc the team had signaled earlier this year, when it outlined Act II as a larger chapter with expanded questing and settlement work.

While those earlier notes described the new act as a step up in map scale and town count, today’s release confirms the key feature players will feel immediately: building and upgrading a home base inside a hostile, systemic world that already pulls from deck-building combat, caravan logistics, and resource pressure.

In short, the update pushes the game from “survive the road” toward “stake a claim,” which should meaningfully change risk management and deck planning in longer runs.

If you’re new to it, The Dead Await mixes card-based encounters with exploration across ruined cities and survivor outposts.

You lead a caravan, scavenge fuel, food, and gear, and tune a deck that defines your combat options against zombies and hostile factions. Base building slots naturally into that structure: a stable headquarters can soften resource swings, create mid-term goals between expeditions, and give the deck meta a clearer progression spine.

For a game that already leans on trauma, attrition, and route-planning, adding construction should deepen the push-your-luck decisions that define whether a run stabilizes or collapses.

The update is live now on Steam, and the launch promotion cuts the price by 30% for a limited period.
