Entalto Publishing and Forgotten Bastions reveal a creature driven strategy game coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch
Sharing today an announcement about what looks like not the usual monster-catching RPG. In the upcoming dark fantasy rogue-lite monster battler Fear Tall Grass by Forgotten Bastions, players take control of Gray, the final Oathguard who sets out into the tall grass to find answers, tame, and fight back against the same creatures that have consumed what’s left of society.

In the world of Fear Tall Grass, all of civilization was destroyed by massive beasts called Vilekin. The player takes on the role of Gray and travels through the tall grass in search of ways to understand these beasts, calm them down, and ultimately defend the remainder of humanity.
Fear Tall Grass appears to try to merge a couple of established concepts together with a focus on systems-based gameplay. Like a typical autobattler, the encounters in Fear Tall Grass occur through an automatic process; however, there is a large roguelite component to the progression and how the player manages their map.

Each run occurs within a loop-style format, and each advancement on the board is determined by the roll of two dice. Therefore, each run can end in drastically different results due to the randomization of movement.
Each encounter in Fear Tall Grass plays out in an auto-battle fashion however, the player may choose to utilize their Command Point to allow Gray to intervene in the battle at key points using Back Line Abilities.

These interventions provide the player with the capability to strategically impact the outcome of each battle and add a layer of control to encounters outside of forming a viable party. Type-effectiveness is used throughout the game as well; therefore, switching out your fighters at the appropriate times to counter enemy lineups will undoubtedly be crucial to surviving tougher encounters.
Outside of battling, Fear Tall Grass includes a Reclaim System that allows players to progressively rebuild their map. Each successful run provides opportunities to remove deadly tile spaces from the board and replace them with areas that provide buffs for your current run.

When returning to the Sanctuary of Light after a run, Gray will have access to the Central Hub for Permanent Progression. Within the Sanctuary of Light, players will be able to manage Oathguard Rank, Craft Magical Items, and Unlock Upgrades that will remain accessible from run-to-run.
There is also an Exaltation System related to your Team of Vilekin. This indicates that there will be additional forms of progression beyond Simply Collecting New Monsters, which are distributed over 100 unique vilekin monsters categorized into six Elemental Paths: Hydro/Pyro/Nature/Physical/Volt/Rock.
Fear Tall Grass is expected to be released on PC via Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch during Q4 2026. Below is the teaser trailer.
