It’s been a while since I last heard about Prometheus Wept. The last time was back in April 2023, when I featured it in an article alongside ten other promising indie titles. After that, partly due to my oversight and partly because of the developers’ lack of updates, I lost track of it until now, with the announcement of its Early Access release date.

Now, if you’re a fan of tough-as-nails tactical RPGs and gritty speculative futures, keep your eyes on Prometheus Wept, the third title from indie developer Timeslip Softworks. After more than five years in development, the game is ready to launch in Early Access, bringing with it a dense mix of turn-based combat, cyberpunk philosophy, and player-driven storytelling.
No nukes. No pandemics. No zombies. Instead, Prometheus Wept paints a scenario where the world collapses after every digital system on Earth is corrupted within 24 hours, possibly due to a massive cyber-attack. Civilization crashes, and out of the digital ashes rise the first artificial intelligences, not saviors, but warped reflections of corrupted code.
A Different Kind of Apocalypse
The premise alone sets Prometheus Wept apart. You play as a Classical Technologist, a rare expert in lost tech, navigating a world where humanity barely remembers the basics of digital infrastructure. With civilization reduced to scattered city-states, your mission is to recover, repair, and repurpose the remnants of a fallen digital age.

The story is rich with choice and consequence. You’re not clearing rats from basements, you’re quelling outbreaks of insanity, confronting deranged AIs in decaying labs, and deciding whether to aid or overthrow the ruling elites of Sunny Pines.
Turn-Based Combat and Deep Character Progression
The combat will feel familiar to fans of XCOM or Wasteland, but Prometheus Wept spices things up with simultaneous cyber and physical battles. One moment you’re laying down suppressive fire in a ruined port, and the next, your consciousness is inside a hostile computer system, battling firewalls and twisted security programs.
Environmental tactics matter. Blow a bridge to slow enemies. Lay caltrops to ambush a convoy. The battlefield isn’t static; it’s a toolbox, and the game encourages creative thinking.

Character progression is handled through the ADAPTER system, a dense mix of stats, skills, and perks that allow for varied builds and playstyles. There’s also an advanced crafting system with over 40 item types to create, from stims to explosives to high-end gear.
And yes, your companions are just as unique as the world. You might team up with a manipulative con-man who can influence thoughts or a robot postwoman plotting a political coup. It’s weird, but in a good way.
Early Access release date
The Early Access version includes the full first act and is already well-polished. The developer, Daithi Mc Hugh, says he’s aiming for a 2.5+ year Early Access period, with 4–6 major content updates along the way. Future additions will include new acts, factions, allies.
Prometheus Wept will be released on PC via Steam on June 13, 2025. Below are more details and an introduction trailer.
