Top new Turn-Based RPGs and Strategy Games

June brings a few must-play RPG gems, some strategy titles, and a slew of Roguelites.

If you’ve been following my blog regularly, you’ll know that every Monday I post a weekly recap of upcoming releases. But since this week’s lineup is a bit sparse, I’ve decided to go ahead and publish the full monthly overview for June instead.

It’s not the most packed month, or rather, it’s dominated by Roguelites and Deckbuilders. Nothing against them, of course, but a little variety wouldn’t hurt anyway, but don’t worry, there are some pearls for RPG purists. The month kicks off with what has become my occasional exception for titles that aren’t strictly turn-based but still feature some form of pause or slowdown mechanic, enough to approximate a true turn-based experience. This time, that exception is Void War, a game that doesn’t just borrow mechanics from FTL, but essentially builds upon the game itself completely. Void War aims to deliver a deeper, more complex experience, complete with distinct classes, usable artifacts, and much more. I wanted to highlight it here, as I imagine many of you will find it intriguing.

It’s funny to see that the other titles launching in the first days of the month also happen to include the word Void in their names. These are a batch of intriguing Roguelite and Roguelike titles named Voidsayer, Void Scout, all dropping in the first few days. But what I’m honestly most interested in is the full release of a strategy RPG I’ve been following for a long time, and specifically held off on playing until the 1.0 launch. I’m talking about Cyber Knights: Flashpoint.

Moving into mid-June, more Roguelites make their entrance, like I said, they’re the main players this month, with highlights including Crown Gambit and the tactical title Shuffle Tactics. But there’s also something for fans of traditional RPGs: a new DLC for the excellent tactical RPG Wandering Sword, titled Secrets of the Eastern Sea. It brings new areas to explore, fresh NPCs, and more, and above all, there’s the early access of NITRO GEN OMEGA, one of my favorites this month: an RPG starring a super robot piloted by multiple characters in classic manga style. In my opinion, this is one you absolutely can’t afford to miss.

Toward the end of the month, on June 26th, we get the clear headliner: Front Mission 3: Remake. This revamped version of the classic Square Enix series gets a fresh coat of paint, with updated visuals and gameplay improvements. Rounding things out is an indie project with tactical combat in the style of Battle Brothers, Sepolcrum.

These are the main highlights; You’ll find the full release list below:

In this realm, knights over 40 who haven’t conquered a city or earned a title are deemed “frail” and stripped of their honors. Now, with monsters emerging from dungeons and threatening the nobility, these outcasts are being called upon to defend the kingdom. What intrigues me is the game’s unique time mechanic. In the dungeons, time doesn’t flow normally; it’s controlled by a massive clock in the dark church at the Earth’s center. When the clock swings east, human time freezes; when it swings west, monster time freezes. This adds an original mechanic to the turn-based combat.

The game includes non-combat encounters that can influence the journey and also features a progression system where players can unlock new adventurers, artifacts, and difficulty levels, enhancing replayability.

That wraps up June’s releases, for now. More titles will be added in the coming days, and I’ll cover them in my usual updates. June also brings two festivals: the #TurnBasedThursdayFest (already underway) and the popular Steam Next Fest, arriving later this month. I’ll be covering both with a dedicated article and video to help you stay on top of the key highlights. See you then! Ciao
