A 2002 setting, squad management, and a scar system that can reshape how operators perform.

Burned Horizons Studio has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Burned Horizons, a turn-based tactical sandbox set in 2002.

Burned Horizons is built around long term consequence. Operators do not climb a traditional XP ladder. The pitch is that they change through missions, choices, and survival, with “flashpoints” that can harden into SCARS that affect how a character behaves under pressure.

Those marks can stack, combine, and reshape an operator’s performance in future fights, which fits the studio’s focus on persistence across a whole campaign.

Combat features action points, suppression, overwatch, and interrupts, plus multiple camera views that include top-down, isometric, and third-person. The setting is tied to Ukraine while extending into neighboring areas like Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Poland, and the Black Sea region.

The campaign is listed with a 30,000-dollar funding goal and a 60-day run from January 25 to March 26, 2026. At the time of writing on January 27, it was sitting at 4,574 dollars pledged from 20 backers.

Burned Horizons is planned for PC via Steam, with April 2026 set for the early access release. The developers say Early Access is expected to last about 12 to 18 months, with a targeted exit window shown as Q3 2027. Modding support is part of the plan too, with options described as sliders and toggles alongside broader mod hooks.
