Fanatical Tabletop Bundle

Let’s take a look At Fanatical Tabletop Wargame Bundle Featuring Some Of The greatest Strategy Games

Growing up I spent many weekends shuffling trays of miniatures around a battlefield at the local Games Workshop. Sadly nowadays I have a little less time to devote to building and painting models, let alone getting them to the table. Instead I console myself with PC titles that allow me to bring vast armies of soldiers against my foes and conquer their lands. This week Fanatical has decided to help those of us with a warmongering ambition by bringing us a bundle with 5 great wargaming titles from premier wargaming publisher Slitherine alongside a host of their DLC.

Feel like “veni vidi vici”-’ing all over the Mediterranean? Then you can fight your way through 4 historical campaigns and 12 key historical battles in Field of Glory II. That’s before we even add in any of the additional DLC options you can grab alongside the main game. Of all the wargaming titles I have played, Field of Glory is one of those that brings me most back to the glory days of pushing around units of soldiers.

It’s always great to see your armies laid out before you but it’s clear a real focus has been put into making this have the feel of a tabletop board game. Battlelines locked in place following the initial volleys of skirmishing units and your best laid plans being laid to waste by one errant cavalry unit causing a chain rout.

Alternatively if you are more of a medieval history buff you can pick the follow up title Field of Glory II: Medieval. All my compliments above go doubly for this game but this time round you can go and read the full review already up on this site where it was described as a must have title for any fans of turn based wargames or the medieval period.

Between you and me though, I would consider getting Field of Glory II first because of its integration with another bundle title, Field of Glory: Empires. We happen to have a review of this one too! There aren’t many titles that come along and try to take a shot at the Total War throne. Combining the 4x empire management with tactical battles played out when a conflict arises.

Field of Glory: Empires is the empire management part of this dynamic, but if you also own Field of Glory II, you can export all of your Empire battles to the original title to play them out in tactical turn-based glory. As much as I like a good tactical battle, I always love the stories of how those fights came about so for me being able to play the battles out greatly improved my Empires experience and it’s a great way to combine titles together to make them greater than the sum of their parts.

For those who aren’t fans of European history we have a few alternate titles to choose from. Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun follows a similar style of gameplay to the Field of Glory series but brings the Warring States period of Japan to the forefront with a stylistic graphic style inspired by old Japanese paintings. This is the one title from the bundle I haven’t played to offer much comment on but that also means it’s likely the title I will pick up the bundle for! Offering a campaign where your decisions on the strategic map have a knock-on impact on the battles themselves, this could be a title to pick up for those who like strategy games set over in the East.

Finally we have a break from the mold, rather than another grid based historical title we are moving over to grid based fantasy goodness. Fantasy General II, released 23 years after the original classic, lets you command trolls, dragons and more alongside their more varied but less interesting human counterparts through a lengthy campaign. You can also grab any of the available expansion packs, the Invasion pack especially got a strong review on this site and is a suggested addition to the game. Out of all the titles, this is likely the most accessible for anyone who might be wanting to dip their toes into PC-based wargaming.

Just a reminder that the bundle allows you to pick from a selection which includes the base games alongside all of the DLCs. If you are in the market for a new strategy title or just want to complete the collection of titles you already own then maybe pop over and browse the whole selection and grab yourself a bargain.
