Party battles, ARC Crystal combinations, exploration, and puzzle-solving ahead of its eventual PC and console release.
Publisher Deck13 Spotlight and developer Datadyne have released an extended gameplay trailer for Forge of the Fae, offering a closer look at the systems powering its retro-styled RPG adventure.
The showcase moves between exploration, environmental puzzles, regular encounters, and larger boss battles, with particular attention given to the game’s fast-paced take on turn-based combat.
Battles revolve around the ARC Crystal System, which allows players to combine skills and magic while shaping each character’s role within the party. Certain skills can also be paired with spells to create additional effects, encouraging players to experiment with combinations rather than simply selecting the strongest individual attacks.
Elemental weaknesses will play a part as well, with fire, wind, water, earth, nature, and arcane magic available during combat.
Another important mechanic is Adrenaline, a resource used to activate special abilities without consuming a character’s normal turn. This should give players more flexibility when responding to dangerous enemy actions, setting up combinations, or recovering from a difficult situation.
Each party member is being designed around a different playstyle, while the interaction between skills, spells, passive effects, and Adrenaline abilities is intended to provide the system’s broader strategic depth.
Outside combat, the trailer presents a colorful pixel-art world inspired by Celtic folklore and 1800s Ireland.
Players follow Fiora, a young inventor investigating a series of disappearances as a miners’ strike descends into violence and mercenaries are hired to suppress the unrest. Her mechanical faerie can be upgraded throughout the adventure, helping her access new paths, uncover hidden information, and channel Fae magic. Decisions made during the story will also influence Fiora’s relationships and the direction of her journey.
Forge of the Fae is currently in development for PC and consoles, although an exact release date has not been announced. A free demo is already available through Steam for players interested in sampling its world and combat mechanics.
