Dungeon Settlers Overview

The colony-management dungeon crawler mashup goes live on September 4, with its development roadmap arriving the same day.

CanOpener has confirmed the exact Early Access launch time for Dungeon Settlers. The dark-fantasy strategy game will become available on Steam on Friday, September 4, 2026. An Early Access roadmap outlining the studio’s post-launch plans will also be published when the game goes live.

Dungeon Settlers Combat System

Dungeon Settlers divides its core loop between maintaining an isolated settlement and organizing increasingly dangerous expeditions underground. Above ground, settlers need housing, food, crafting facilities, research, and enough supplies to survive the next descent.

Parties can include up to four recruits, each defined by equipment, combat skills, statistics, personality traits, race, and background.

Battles unfold in real time with full pause control, placing the tactical emphasis on positioning, ability timing, enemy weaknesses, and status effects such as stun, bleed, burn, and vulnerability. Permanent death raises the cost of a failed expedition, since losing a trained settler can also disrupt the wider colony.

The initial Early Access build is expected to contain the complete core gameplay loop and the first two dungeon regions, which can be played from beginning to end. CanOpener currently anticipates an Early Access period of approximately two years, although that estimate may change according to development progress and community feedback.

Future updates are planned to introduce additional regions, monsters, weapons, skills, races, events, balance adjustments, interface improvements, optimization, and further localization work. Modding support and Steam Workshop integration are also part of the longer-term plans, with the launch-day roadmap expected to clarify how those additions will be prioritized.

Dungeon Settlers is being developed by CanOpener and published by CanOpener and WhisperGames for Windows and macOS via Steam.
