Darkest Dungeon II continues its slow crawl toward damnation, now with more platforms in tow. Red Hook Studios has officially launched the Secrets of the Coven update on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, bringing the second Kingdoms adventure module to console players.

Already available on PC, Mac, and PlayStation, Secrets of the Coven is a free content drop that adds a new Kingdoms questline, a fresh enemy faction (the titular Coven), and a batch of community-requested features like inn storage and item selling. The update marks a significant shift from the first Kingdoms module, Hunger of the Beast Clan, offering a different gameplay rhythm and atmosphere. Expect slower, more insidious tension as you work to unravel the Coven’s creeping corruption before it topples your fragile kingdom.
Creative Director Chris Bourassa said the new module “pushes into new and exciting territory,” with distinct pacing and mechanics that should stand apart from earlier content.
The Kingdoms mode itself is an evolving campaign framework that trades the confessional descent of the original game for a broader overworld struggle. You’re not just surviving, you’re actively defending a network of inns against rising chaos. One final Kingdoms module is still on deck for later this year. Red Hook is also cooking up the Steadfast Steward’s Update, a separate effort focused on quality-of-life improvements with community collaboration. That includes hero reworks, better tooltips, and UI polish, and players will get early access to in-progress builds via Discord.
In case you missed it: the Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition is coming to physical shelves in Q4 2025 for Switch and PS5. It’ll include DLC, a pop-up diorama, and a steelbook for those who like their despair collectible. For now, Secrets of the Coven is free and available today on all major platforms. Time to light the torch, and try not to lose your mind. Here you can find our review of the base game.
