Prelude Dark Pain

The wait is almost over for the Early Access debut of one of the most anticipated tactical RPGs inspired by classics. I’m talking about PRELUDE: Dark Pain, a dark fantasy tactical RPG developed by QUICKFIREGAMES and published by Firesquid and Gamersky Games.

The game launches on Monday, July 27 (tomorrow, at the time of writing), and to whet fans’ appetites, the developer has just sent me the launch trailer ahead of its public release. It features several never-before-seen gameplay sequences, along with a brief look at the world map, one of the game’s highlights.

PRELUDE: Dark Pain is a dark fantasy tactical RPG in which players follow Soren, a retired warrior and blacksmith drawn into a rebellion against the brutal Order of the Ashen Crusade.

Battles unfold on grid-based maps with elevation, environmental elements, and combinations of character abilities that play important roles. Players can assemble squads of up to five customizable heroes, improve their equipment, complete optional objectives, make choices that affect the story and recruitment opportunities, and develop a settlement supporting the resistance.

The game enters Steam Early Access on July 27, 2026, with its complete first act, nine playable heroes, and approximately 15 hours of content.

We’re already hard at work on our preview, which will be published in the coming hours. In the meantime, you can check out the launch trailer below. PRELUDE: Dark Pain will be available on PC via Steam when Early Access goes live tomorrow.
