Hold everything. After years of speculation, rumors, and hope, the remaster of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, tactical RPGs in video game history has finally arrived. I’m talking, of course, about Final Fantasy Tactics and the remaster that Square Enix has just announced with a brand-new trailer.

Officially titled Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, the enhanced edition of the 1997 tactical RPG classic will launch in September 2025 on PC and major consoles.
Much more than a simple remaster, The Ivalice Chronicles boasts fully voiced dialogue, a modernized UI, quality-of-life features, and a graphical overhaul. Players can also choose between the enhanced version and a faithfully recreated classic mode that uses the War of the Lions translation.
The story remains the same, deeply political, layered with betrayal, and set in the war-torn kingdom of Ivalice. Players once again follow Ramza Beoulve, a noble-turned-mercenary whose legacy has been obscured by history, and his complex relationship with childhood friend Delita Heiral.

Akihiko Yoshida returns with new key art capturing the emotional core of the game’s cast, featuring Ramza, Delita, Ovelia, and Alma, each caught between personal loyalty and the tides of fate.
Classic Systems, Modern Upgrades
The job system returns in full force, with over 20 unique classes like Geomancer, Summoner, and Time Mage. The new version also includes:
- Fast-forward options to speed up battles
- Auto-save during combat
- Revamped difficulty options
- Tactical map previews and turn-order indicators
- New character conversations and lore scenes

Voice Cast & Developer Lineup
The new voice cast includes Joe Pitts (Ramza), Gregg Lowe (Delita), and Hannah Melbourn (Agrias), with notable cameos by Cody Christian (Cloud Strife) and Briana White (Aerith Gainsborough). Behind the scenes, original creators Kazutoyo Maehiro, Hiroshi Minagawa, and Yasumi Matsuno have all returned to shape this definitive version.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Deluxe Edition
Pre-orders include stat-boosting items like the Mythril Knife, Spiked Boots, and recovery items. The Deluxe Edition adds exclusive gear like the Akademy Blade and the Ring of Aptitude, which speeds up job point accumulation, alongside red and black alternate outfits for Ramza.
The launch is set for September 30, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Steam Deck.
