Humble is responsible for the never-ending growth of my Steam account and the large hole in my wallet, yet it’s still an unhealthy relationship I treasure deeply. So, for all the turn-based fans out there, it’s my pleasure to bring you news of the latest SNEG Video Game Classics bundle, packed full of much beloved games from the late 90s.
You know the drill: 2 different tiers for the bundle depending on how many titles you want, as well as the option to control how your payment is split between the publisher and charity. Please note that, unlike the majority of Humble Bundles, none of these keys are redeemed on Steam, so you will need a Good Old Games (GOG) account. However, GOGs are usually updated to run on more modern machines, so there should be fewer barriers between you and a trip down memory lane.
So, what does the bundle contain? A whopping 23 titles! Even more, if you consider that many of these are multipacks, the games stretch across a whole range of genres. Being turn based lovers here, let’s take a dive into some of the older titles featured.
The first series to grab my eye was the Warlords trilogy. Sadly I do have to make the confession that I was not even born when the original Warlords came out and I would like to apologise to any readers I just made feel old. What I played a lot of in my youth was the RTS Battlecry series of games that spun off from this original trilogy, and it’s great to see the series being kept alive by the folks over at GOG.
Carrying on with the fantasy theme, we also have the original Fantasy General game, which unexpectedly ended up getting a sequel 23 years later, and I had a really fun time with it. There’s just something about throwing mythological creatures into a good hex-based strategy that I love. Maybe it’s the old Warhammer player in me, but this bundle might tempt me to go back to being an armchair general in an attempt to vanquish the Shadowlord.
Maybe instead, you want to take on a more historical fight in Pacific General, a follow-up to the legendary Panzer General, which left a lasting impact on PC wargames. Pacific General allows you to command troops across a Pacific campaign and features numerous scenarios and a battle generator.
If you are more of the creative type then one of the more unique offerings in the bundle is the Wargame Construction Set allowing you to build your own DOS era wargame. Design your own maps and build campaigns across a number of era’s. Siege a castle, fight the American Civil War or lead a science fiction army all in one package.
You also get a whole range of other games included for you to delve back into and find one to suit your mood. Old school RTS? Isometric RPG? First Person Shooters and Slashers? All included.
