Diviner RPG

Diviner has completely changed in its structure and UI, and in my view, for the better.

Some time ago, I tried out Diviner, a promising first-person RPG with exploration elements and a distinctive combat system built around weapon durability and composition, all wrapped in a dark aesthetic that inevitably evokes Dark Souls–style settings.

This morning, while scrolling through my feed, I saw an update from the indie developer Born of Three, who announced they’re working hard to release a playtest in December. What caught my attention the most, though, is how drastically the game has changed, in my opinion, for the better.

Exploration has shifted from a first-person view to an isometric camera, while still retaining the game’s dark, gothic atmosphere, which looks genuinely striking. Combat, on the other hand, now takes place in first person, allowing us to appreciate the massive swords and other weapons we’ll be wielding, as well as the enemies we’ll face.

Not bad so far. The game’s core pillar, the deep weapon customization system, featuring slots for runes and similar upgrades, is still there, and from the latest screenshots, the UI looks significantly improved.

Another feature shown in the available gameplay video is inventory management, which works much like in Resident Evil, a grid-based system that forces players to make tough decisions about what to carry and what to leave behind as the adventure progresses.

As for the story, details are still scarce, except that in Tethered, we’ll play as an entity commissioned by the Diviner to recover the organs of a fallen lord in order to bring him back to life.

Diviner’s third community update states that the developer is working on the public demo, which is still ongoing, and is lining up private Steam playtests for December through Discord.

In earlier posts, they said the new demo would be completed by the end of October, and also confirmed the project’s return to full-time development after a hiatus. The cadence suggests a closed feedback round first, then a wider hands-on once the demo is stable.

Diviner is in development for PC on Steam, with a target release window of Q2 2027.
