Knights of Fardensa - New Wartales DLC

Wartales is still evolving at a tremendous rate, with DLCs, updates, and new content coming in quite regularly. The latest addition I’m bringing to you today is looking particularly promising, with a lot of potential for some real fun. Shiro Games have just announced Knights of Fardensa, the next Wartales expansion, arriving on December 9th, 2026. It comes with a large free update that adds mounted combat and horse breeding. The expansion will open up a region which is in the midst of a struggle between the various noble families. The new cavalry systems will be available to all Wartales players regardless of whether they buy the DLC or not.

Wartales New DLC featuring mounted units

The free update brings Horseman as a Mastery class that companions can take in addition to their existing class. Mounted characters fight with lances and generate Momentum by moving during combat, giving you yet another reason to consider the paths your mercenaries take across the battlefield.

We’ll need to be careful about staying in the saddle. Some enemies are capable of dismounting the rider and at that point those companions go back to fighting as their original class. Buying a horse obviously doesn’t mean you’re off the hook in the event of a fight ending on foot.

Progression applies to both rider and mount. Horses get a specialization, and completing challenges will unlock additional Horseman skills. Stables and breeding will also be avenues through which you can improve your mounts’ stats and customize their coats. Shiro Games intends to go into more detail on the Horseman and breeding systems in subsequent announcements.

Wartales Knighs of Fardensa

For Knights of Fardensa, the new destination is inspired by Renaissance Florence. The vineyards, orchards, and colorful estates all belong to a region where the Ald Hertoggs hold sway through their control of the horse and trade monopolies. The various noble families have their own agendas and your company’s contracts will see you drawn into their conflicts. Your choice of whom to back will have a direct bearing on how the regional story unfolds.

The expansion also brings with it armor associated with Fardensa’s families and five legendary horses to obtain, with discoveries spilling over into other regions. Companies can go the knighthood route, summon and recruit a legendary character, and take on a new regional boss and arena champion. Further details on those additions are still under wraps.

Players can already go ahead and try out the free update’s systems as part of an open beta which runs until 18th November. The beta covers the Horseman class and horse breeding. The Fardensa region and the expansion’s story are not included.

To join on Steam, you right-click Wartales in your library, go to Properties, select Betas, and then select the Open Beta branch. Shiro recommends backing up your save files prior to joining and keeping your beta saves separate from your live version saves. They’re looking for feedback on just about everything really, from being able to get horses and understanding the progression system through to Momentum, lance attacks, dismounting, and breeding.

Wartales: Knights of Fardensa is available to wishlist on Steam in the run-up to its December 9th release. The mounted combat and horse breeding update that accompanies it will be free for all players. Below is the video introducing this update.
