Ashes of Elrant DLC Expands Chained Echoes This August with New Lands, Monsters, and Music

Released in 2022, Chained Echoes was undoubtedly one of the most important titles in recent years, showcasing what an indie developer with big ideas can truly accomplish. Today Deck13 Spotlight and Umami Tiger, the studio led by Chained Echoes creator Matthias Linda, have officially announced Ashes of Elrant, the first major DLC for the award-winning indie JRPG.

Inspired by the golden era of SNES and PS1-era RPGs, it blends classic 16-bit pixel art with modern design, delivering a polished, heartfelt homage to the genre.

Set on the war-torn continent of Valandis, Chained Echoes follows a group of heroes on a quest to end the generations-long conflict between its kingdoms. Players explore a richly detailed world filled with varied biomes.

Combat in Chained Echoes is fast-paced, with a turn-based system that lets you use traditional weapons and magic but also utilize customizable Sky Armors, mech suits that add a unique layer to exploration and combat.

This new DLC, Ashes of Elrant promises to deliver everything that made Chained Echoes a modern JRPG standout while expanding its world with fresh content. The DLC introduces a brand-new land beyond Valandis, adding over 40 new monsters and bosses, 15 original tracks from composer Eddie Marianukroh, and a not-so-mini fishing minigame.

Set just before the final battle of the base game, Ashes of Elrant reunites players with the Crimson Wings as they respond to a call for aid from the mysterious land of Elrant. Players will uncover more of Valandis’ hidden history and gain deeper insight into the party’s characters and their motivations while encountering the White Wolf, a significant figure tied to Valandis’ lore.

The expansion will release on August 7, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
