Front Mission 3: Remake lands on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and GOG, with a free demo you can play now.

Front Mission 3: Remake is locked for January 30, 2026 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and GOG), and there’s already a downloadable demo up on Steam.

Front Mission 3 Remake

The original Front Mission 3 is a PlayStation tactical RPG from 1999 in Japan, with North America and Europe releases in 2000, and it’s the entry that first brought the series outside Japan.

It follows two Japanese test pilots, Kazuki Takemura and Ryogo Kusama, and it’s built around an early decision that branches the campaign into two separate routes. One centers on Kazuki’s sister Alisa (the DHZ scenario), the other ties into Emma Klamsky and the M.I.D.A.S. weapons thread (the USN scenario).

Both routes share some locations and events, but they’re structured as distinct playthroughs with different party dynamics and story beats.

FM3 leans hard into how Wanzers come apart under fire. Battles are mission-based tactical encounters, and the game lets attacks damage the pilot directly, force an ejection, and even lets pilots fight on foot or hijack another machine if there’s an empty frame on the field.

A lot of the day-to-day tactics come from disabling hardware: if an arm gets wrecked, the weapon mounted there goes with it, and leg damage can cripple mobility, so you’re often choosing between going for the kill or cutting off an enemy’s options.

Progression is also a little unusual for the genre. Skills aren’t just “level up, get ability.” FM3 has pilots learn skills through equipped Wanzer parts and use, with learned abilities getting stored in the Wanzer’s battle computer.

On top of that, there’s a remodeling layer that lets players improve things like armor coating (Def-C), weapon accuracy, movement tech like jumping power, and even rollers for faster travel on flat terrain.

Then there’s the game’s network layer, which became a big part of why people remember FM3 at all. It expands the earlier series’ network idea into a pseudo-internet where you can read in-universe content and exchange email, and it includes a Battle Simulator mode used for repeatable training exercises.

Forever Entertainment and MegaPixel Studio’s published feature list keeps it focused on modernization. Updated visuals and animations, reorchestrated music, Wanzer camo customization, and a Quick Combat mode meant to speed up battles.

The Steam listing also confirms typical PC-side extras like Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud support. This version has already been available on Nintendo Switch since June 26, 2025, and the January 30 release is the point where it becomes broadly playable again on modern hardware.
