Bit Reactor’s tactical Star Wars game is starting to show a stronger identity through new hands-on details and developer commentary.

The latest Star Wars Zero Company coverage was released on March 27th, 2026, in the form of new hands-on content and developer interviews. In total, this new information provides a better understanding of exactly what Bit Reactor is developing.

Star Wars Zero Company

While the actual launch date for Star Wars Zero Company remains to be announced (it will likely come out sometime in 2026), all parties involved have confirmed that the title will release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

One of the largest areas of changes is in regards to the amount of detailed information available surrounding its overall structure, tone and combat systems. Star Wars Zero Company set during the last year or so of the Clone Wars. Players will take the role of Hawks, a former Republic Officer, and lead an improvised group known as Zero Company.

The most significant update at present is that Star Wars Zero Company may be more than simply another Star Wars take on XCOM. The new hands-on reports indicate that missions include non-combat third-person exploration sequences where players directly control Hawks outside of combat.

This creates a more cinematic and character-driven experience compared to many TBT experiences. Additionally, the campaign also revolves around a central location referred to as “The Den” and a galaxy map that combines traditional TBT-style missions with more narrative focused operations.

As such, this could provide players with a greater level of control over the development of the larger conflict. The structure aligns with previously provided details regarding The Den being the squads’ home base located on the Ring of Kafrene.

Another large point from the recent coverage is the games emphasis on consequences. Bit Reactor has confirmed that Permadeath is not just limited to generic recruit types. Once full time story-driven squadmates become integral parts of the campaigns progression, they too can die permanently along with their associated abilities and equipment; except for Hawks due to his death resulting in a Game Over scenario.

This would be a very bold design choice for a licensed Star Wars game, and is a further example of how Bit Reactor is framing it within the larger context of the project’s focus on loss, sacrifice, and squad bonding.

The same hands-on coverage reports have stated that player relationships with each other between party members are mechanically relevant. Players build bonds through completing missions that unlock various combat benefits and influence how party members interact with each other.

The game features original named characters like clone trooper Trick, Umbaran Sniper Luco Bronc, Mandalorian Gunslinger Cly Kullervo, and Jedi Padawan Tel, in addition to supporting customization for operators and unique combinations (like using multiple Astromech units).

Star Wars Zero Company

On the story side, it appears Bit Reactor is going all-in on Clone Wars tension, specifically the political and philosophical divide between the Republic and Separatist ideologies.

Both official and recent coverage report that Star Wars Zero Company draws from influences like Andor, Rogue One, and the Original Trilogy, while it is reported that the Mission Writing draws heavily from less used lore and planets to create a wider galactic feel for the Campaign.

At present, the simplest way to put it is that Star Wars Zero Company does not yet have an official release date for when it will officially launch. However, based on the latest coverage, it appears they are aiming for something bigger than your typical reskinned-tactics experience. Here you can find the Steam Page.
