A side project turned full-time, built around tabletop-inspired battles and unit group progression.

Tabletop Fantasy War is a turn-based strategy game by indie EdenDev Studio built around small-scale board battles where players assemble unit groups, deploy them on a hex-grid map, and try to win through positioning and controlled engagements

The Steam description frames fortresses as the key map objective, since capturing them provides upgrades and can shift future fights through terrain bonuses and better stats.

Before a match, players create their unit groups and bring them into a scenario with a fixed deployment. The game’s combat model is built on direct attacks and counterattacks that can happen in melee or at range.

Formations are part of that planning, since they can affect hit chance and survivability, and the developer emphasizes that where a group stands on the board matters as much as what it is made of.

This makes terrain and approach angles part of the main decision loop: closing distance at the wrong moment can trigger a counterattack on unfavorable ground, while holding a strong hex and forcing the opponent to commit can be the safer way to gain tempo.

The full game is planned to include a single-player campaign set in the fantasy world of Korsak. In campaign mode, unit groups develop through experience and progression trees, earning honors and upgrades over time.

Missions are described as having different objectives and rewards, with some secondary goals intended to be difficult early and more realistic once groups have progressed.

There are also skirmish and multiplayer modes where players can use the available factions on different boards against AI or online opponents, still using fortresses and terrain as the main levers for advantage.

A public demo is already available, while the release window is set for March 2026 on PC via Steam. Below, I share the official trailer.
