Last week, I talked about Band of Crusaders, highlighting a few of the team’s devlogs that showcase some of the creatures and enemies we’ll face while crossing this dark, macabre take on Medieval Europe, the setting for this promising strategy title.
A few hours ago, however, some great news dropped because NCSOFT and developers Virtual Alchemy and Ironward have announced that the Band of Crusaders demo will launch on Steam on December 3 at 6 am PST / 9 am EST / 3 pm CET / 5 pm MSK / 10 pm CST / 11 pm KST.

The dark medieval strategy RPG has been in development for several years, and the Steam demo follows a closed community playtest where the team gathered feedback and tuned core systems based on player responses.
Band of Crusaders is set in a grim version of medieval Europe where sins manifest as demonic amalgamations and heresy is slowly consuming the continent. Players step into the role of Grandmaster of a knightly order and are tasked with leading a crusade against an encroaching demonic invasion.

Campaign progression plays out across a large, simulated world where you recruit new Brothers, move your order across the map, and decide which regions to defend or cleanse as the threat grows.
Band of Crusaders uses real-time tactical combat reinforced by a slow-motion system. Time can be heavily slowed, allowing units to be repositioned, abilities triggered, and enemies reacted to while keeping the flow of combat intact.
Positioning, unit synergies, and timing matter because every hit carries weight: Crusaders can die permanently, and losing a veteran knight can reshape your roster and force you to rethink your approach.

Between battles, players manage a mobile camp that can host up to 20 crusader knights. The camp acts as the strategic backbone of the order, housing facilities for recruitment, healing, repairing gear, and training.
Buildings can be upgraded and interact with one another, encouraging experimentation with different upgrade paths and support structures for your preferred playstyle. Each crusader arrives with their own background, strengths, and weaknesses, and their potential grows as you invest in them over the course of a campaign.
Character development leans on flexible skill trees and equipment-driven builds rather than rigid classes.
Abilities are tied to weapons and can be mixed across roles, allowing you to shape multi-role frontline defenders, glass-cannon zealots, or support specialists that enable the rest of the band. Active, passive, and semi-active skills can be combined to create synergies within a squad, rewarding players who plan around complementary tools instead of simple stat bumps.

The wider world is designed to change over time. A simulated demonic invasion pushes against human factions, driving raids, shifting front lines, and escalating toward large-scale confrontations with Archdemons.
Weather, seasons, and a day–night cycle influence conditions on the ground, while different enemy families, drawn from biblical imagery and European folklore, bring their own strengths and weaknesses, forcing players to adjust tactics as the campaign unfolds.
A demo version is already available on GOG, and the Steam release will open the doors to a wider PC audience. Below is the demo release trailer.
