Gwent co-creator Damien Monnier is collaborating on a narrative card game set in a sinister version of the French Revolution.

I was drawn to Lazare’s Sacrifice by the idea of sacrificing the very space needed to play my cards. Newly announced by developer Dream Reality Interactive and publisher Curve Games, the narrative deckbuilder puts that uncomfortable decision inside a prison where a lost match can end at the guillotine.

Lazare's Sacrifice

You take the role of General Lazare Hoche, betrayed and locked away in Carmes Prison during the French Revolution. The other inmates include distorted versions of historical figures, each with secrets and their own approach to the card table. Lazare has to survive these encounters while investigating the conspiracy behind his captivity.

A Stronger Move Can Leave You Exposed

The combat was designed in collaboration with Gwent co-creator Damien Monnier. You can surrender cards, health, or board slots to strengthen your plays, with more substantial sacrifices enabling more powerful moves.

LAzare's Sacrifice

Spending health reduces your room for error, while losing a board slot can restrict how you develop your position. Deckbuilding spans four factions, and winning a duel lets you select cards from your defeated opponent’s deck. Those rivals are then sent to the guillotine.

A Prison to Explore Between Duels

Away from the table, Lazare can explore Carmes Prison, solve puzzles, gather information from its inhabitants, and search for hidden cards and useful items. The investigation helps uncover the circumstances of his imprisonment. That gives exploration a promising connection to the duels: searching the prison can help strengthen your deck while revealing more about the people sharing your captivity.

Card Game

The game includes a narrative Story Mode and Tower Mode, a separate gauntlet played with a custom deck. The latter provides a dedicated challenge for experimenting with the card system alongside the prison mystery.

Lazare’s Sacrifice is scheduled for spring 2027 on Windows PC via Steam. You can already add it to your wishlist and watch the reveal trailer below.
