The latest project from Summerfall Studios, Malys, has launched in Steam Early Access, offering something quite different from the average roguelite deckbuilding genre.
Created by the team behind Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical and penned by David Gaider, former Lead Writer for the Dragon Age series, this brutal exorcism adventure lets players step into the role of Noah, a former priest turned demon hunter, as he struggles to save a cursed city from its demonic infestation.
Set in a beautifully illustrated, doom-laden realm, Malys puts players on the path of vengeance and redemption. As Noah, you’ll exorcise demons by burning cards to light holy candles, invoking holy and arcane powers to reveal their True Name and banish them from possessed hosts.
The game’s core mechanic revolves around making choices every turn: burning cards to sustain light, preserving Will to survive brutal encounters, and combining holy and dark powers to carve a path through twisted streets.
The Early Access version of Malys already delivers a robust experience, including the first playable region and its initial story beats, as well as a wide range of cards, curios, and equipment to explore.
The team at Summerfall aims to evolve the game with regular updates based on community feedback, introducing more stories, new cards, deeper meta-progression, and additional regions leading up to its 1.0 launch, tentatively planned for late 2025.
