When Disco Elysium proved that raw conversation and messy human psychology could carry an RPG, countless indies took notes. Few, however, have doubled down on the idea quite as boldly as End-all Entertainment’s Paradigm Island, a Finnish-made narrative adventure–RPG in which your greatest boss fight may be with the voices in your own skull.

Slated for a July 2025 launch on Steam, the game already has a free demo praised during Next Fest and is earning grant money in its native Helsinki. Here’s a deep dive into what makes this tiny oil-rig mystery look so tantalising.
A small studio with big ideas
End-all Entertainment was formed in 2022, but it was the IGDA Finland micro-grant in July 2024 that let the four-person team quit day jobs and tackle Paradigm Island full-time. In the grant announcement, the chapter praised the project’s “everyday surrealism meets dry wit,” noting how it beat out 23 other applicants for the inaugural award.
That cash injection led to a vertical slice the team showed this spring, and the playable demo that went live during Steam’s June 2025 Next Fest.
With wishlists climbing, the studio now projects a 1.0 release on Windows first, then on other platforms, if the launch goes smoothly.
Mercenaries, oil-rig ghosts, and an identity crisis
In Paradigm Island, you step into the shoes of Mike, an 18-year-old orphan raised by mercenaries who’s finally invited on his first real job: surveying a derelict offshore rig. Players soon realise the rusting superstructure is only half the problem.

Mike begins slipping between realities, communing with colour-coded spectres that represent his own mind, body, and soul. The demo’s tone veers from dry jokes about malfunctioning utility robots to moments of genuine unease as Mike confronts a red, ghost-like figure no one else can see.
Tabletop DNA in a digital body
At its core Paradigm Island is a dice-based CRPG. Every dialogue option or environmental interaction triggers a roll of two six-sided dice. Succeed, and the story branches one way; fail, and it may branch in another, often hilariously.
Instead of a front-loaded character creator, players earn skill points organically and slot them into twelve Mind/Body/Soul skills that boost those checks. Even a single point can change Mike’s internal monologue, letting him hot-wire a robot or blurt out poetic metaphors he doesn’t yet understand. Failing can be just as meaningful as succeeding.

Yet the headline trick is that some of those skills literally talk back. Much like Disco’s cop-brain, Mike’s traits butt in mid-conversation, cajoling or sabotaging him. Early footage on the dev-blog shows inner voice speech bubbles erupting while Mike chats with his surly crewmate René, forcing you to weigh external dialogue against the chorus inside your head.
Visually, the game marries chunky low-poly 3D environments with crisp, hand-inked character portraits, an aesthetic Finnish press compared to Franco-Belgian ligne claire comics. Sun-bleached pastels dominate the rig’s corrugated metal, while UI panels look like torn notebook paper.
The audio follows suit. Sparse synth pads hum beneath creaking steel walkways, broken by clanging dice sounds and occasional electric-jazz riffs when a skill kicks in.
While many CRPGs flirt with philosophy, Paradigm Island wears its heart on its cover page. In practice, that means branching quest lines where shooting first may alienate friends, or denying a robot a name might doom it to existential oblivion. Even a throwaway choice, befriending said robot, could become integral if you choose to keep it.

According to End-all’s narrative designer Sanni Lehto, the team’s goal is to explore how teens form identity under institutional pressure. “We ask whether you are the dice roll, the intention behind it, or the story you tell yourself afterwards,” she wrote in a March 2025 blog post.
The road to release
The team plans for a July 2025 on PC via Steam with no precise release date. If the launch goes well, Switch and PlayStation ports are on the docket. Post-release, End-all hints at an “oil-rig epilogue” DLC that explores the ghost dimension in more depth, though they stress that the main story is self-contained, below some more details and the pre-release trailer.
