Bad Juice Games’ first title is a retro-inspired strategy RPG built around two protagonists, grid combat, and permadeath

Bad Juice Games has officially announced Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten, a new Strategy RPG by Irish Solo Developer Miles Benjamin.

Hibera SRPG

Hibera was unveiled during the March 2026 games from Ireland Steam event, which is a showcase hosted by IMIRT. Benjamin previously worked as a Game Designer at Demiurge Studios and Sega Networks prior to starting his own independent development studio.

Hibera is essentially attempting to emulate the old-school console tactical RPG experience; however, the setting takes place in a world where common folk fight a war larger than themselves. Players follow two main characters, Maebh and Alto, as they find themselves fighting on opposite sides of a massive war that spans across continents.

Hibera Combat System

Maebh finds herself in trouble when her brother steals food from a Noble and Alto is a regular foot soldier in the Quiretian Army who becomes a commander due to events surrounding a large scale battle.

Surrounding Maebh and Alto is the larger background of politics within Hibera, where there are three kingdoms, Atha, Lundale, and Cathebria, forming the Unstable Tri-Kingdom Alliance, which is fighting to stay intact despite the constant strain from both internal & external forces and hidden threats from the past.

Hibera SRPG GBA Style

The large-scale narrative context of Hibera surrounds a turn-based grid combat experience inspired by other tactical RPG games. Weapon triangle system, permanent death, recruiting allies, limited equipment usage, a Fog Of War mechanic, and terrain-specific advantages are all features you will find inside the game.

Bad Juice Games seems to have made efforts to create the impression that the Retro angle is intentional. Additionally, Miles Benjamin mentioned in recent communication that he plans to incorporate Hand Painted Pixel Art in a 2.5D format, thus balancing GBA-style inspiration with a slightly more modern aesthetic.

Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten has no release date yet, but in the meantime, you can wishlist the game on Steam and watch the trailer below.
