The gun-focused RPG Resonance of Fate gets upgraded visuals and a faster way to explore, fight, and follow its story.
I’m not sure whether it’s fair to call Resonance of Fate an underrated JRPG, since I haven’t really looked into that while writing this. What I do know is that I absolutely loved it back when it first came out on PS3. A few hours ago, developer tri-Ace released the Resonance of Fate Enhanced Remaster for PS5 and PC, bringing the unusual RPG improved graphics and a new double-speed option. This comes after the original game in 2010 and the 4K/HD Edition in 2018.

The speed setting is one of the more useful options, applicable to field exploration, battles, and events. You can run all three at twice the normal speed, which is a handy option for returning players making another run through the campaign or indeed anyone who just wants to get through it quicker.
Visual improvements are the upscaled textures on characters and environments. On PC the expanded graphics options also include native 4K, HDR and 120fps (as per the official Steam page). That gives the industrial environments and the combat animations a real visual upgrade.

For the uninitiated, the story is set on a ruined future Earth where humanity built a giant machine called Basel to restore the environment and gave it the power to decide who lives and who dies. Zephyr, Vashyron and Leanne are mercenaries who make their living taking on various jobs and as they do so they slowly start to find out what their world is really like and what their own fates are.
Combat features one of the most spectacular sequences ever involving aerial gunplay via tri-Ace’s Hero Action system. You’ve got your character leaping through the air whilst shooting at enemies which gives the fights a very particular rhythm and feel. The music is by Kohei Tanaka and Motoi Sakuraba.

Price is $34.99, with a $9.99 upgrade available for owners of the previous 4K/HD Edition on PS4 or PC. PC buyers should be aware that the Enhanced Remaster is sold as DLC. The Steam version requires you to already own the Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition, and then you purchase the upgrade.
