Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the debut game from Montpellier-based indie studio Sandfall Interactive, has hit a major milestone: 3.3 million units sold in its first 33 days.

Launched on April 24 for PC and consoles, the game immediately turned heads with its stunning art direction, emotional storytelling, and distinctive combat system. It sold 1 million copies within the first 72 hours, and hasn’t slowed since. Not bad for a new IP from a team of just 30 people, some of whom were working on their first-ever game.
The numbers are as impressive as the reception: a 92 Metascore on consoles and a user rating of 9.7 on Metacritic make it the highest-rated game of 2025 so far. That critical acclaim has been matched by community passion. Fans from around the world have filled forums and social media with fan art, lore breakdowns, and cover performances of the game’s haunting soundtrack. Speaking of the music, lead composer Lorien Testard’s score has been streamed over 90 million times, with the standout track Lumière racking up 13 million listens and nearly 3 million YouTube views on the official video.
The game was published by Kepler Interactive, a London-based publisher with a growing catalog of artistically driven titles like Sifu, Pacific Drive, and the upcoming Rematch. With Clair Obscur, they’ve helped bring one of the most celebrated indie games in recent memory to life.
