Classic CRPG Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor Returns This November With a Restored Edition

A dracolich threatening Faerûn is a perfectly valid reason to get the old party back together. SNEG has confirmed that Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor will be arriving on Steam on 6th November 2026. This is the return of Stormfront Studios’ 2001 D&D RPG with an enhanced re-release. The re-release comes with a revamped interface, a number of modernization options, and a free demo which is available now.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor Returns

Set in the Forgotten Realms, the adventure kicks off with a newly discovered Pool of Radiance beneath New Phlan which is slowly spreading corruption throughout the realm. Elminster has your party sent into the ruins of the elven city of Myth Drannor where a sorceress and a dracolich have some plans which are quite obviously going to need putting a stop to.

You can create up to 4 heroes and pick 2 additional companions from the standard D&D races and classes to form your expedition. The combat is turn-based, with tactical positioning and spell selection being the key to success, and there’s an optional turn timer to add a bit of pressure to your decisions (apparently the monsters weren’t providing enough of that already).

The interface changes could be very useful in the course of a dungeon crawl. SNEG is introducing an action bar and tooltips, reworked camera controls and full controller support.

Combat animation speed is also configurable so you can control how fast the action plays out between your decisions. The publisher also promise a host of fixes to the original game bugs, compatibility with modern hardware, improved visuals and widescreen support (including 4K).

There is some flexibility in how the changes are implemented with in-game settings allowing you to tailor the enhancements and an optional Legacy mode available which will preserve the original look and feel of the game. That gives the returning player the option of re-experiencing the game as they remember it.

Anyone wanting to get a feel for the restoration can start with the free Steam demo which includes the first location. Progress will carry over into the full game so your initial expedition can also act as a head start for the full game in November.
