Red Hook Studios has dropped a teaser for The Butcher’s Asylum (the upcoming DLC for Darkest Dungeon II), and a full reveal is due at WePlay Expo in Shanghai on Nov 21-22, 2026. They’ll be releasing a teaser trailer, then a full trailer and a good deal of gameplay footage as part of a special live presentation at the event. Obviously, the heroes are still suffering to the point where there’s room for an expansion.
The presentation will be showing the new footage to both the attendees at the event and to the worldwide audience. A number of the dev team will also be there at the expo to meet the players and other devs. Red Hook haven’t given an exact time for the presentation in their announcement, so the two-day event is the window to watch.
For now the studio are keeping the specifics of The Butcher’s Asylum under their hat. The announcement doesn’t say anything about the gameplay additions, the characters or the release date so it’s the November showcase that will be the one to tell us what the DLC will actually be. There’s a name and there’s a teaser, but anyone who’s been looking to start putting together a new party will have to wait a bit longer.
This will be Red Hook’s second time at WePlay. Communications director Michaela Pontellini described it as a chance to show off the next DLC to the series’ fanbase in Shanghai, a natural extension of the international community that has grown up around Darkest Dungeon over the past ten years since the game’s original release. The visit also happens to be WePlay’s own 10th anniversary.
The Butcher’s Asylum is the next major set of content to come to Darkest Dungeon II following its 2023 launch (The Binding Blade, Inhuman Bondage and Kingdoms being the previous major additions). Red Hook have also continued to work on the original game with The Fire’s Edge arriving on 18th August 2026 and a canonical graphic novel project with Vault Comics having launched its BackerKit on 6th October.
The next confirmed milestone for The Butcher’s Asylum is its WePlay Expo presentation on 21st/22nd November. Nothing further was revealed in that announcement regarding release dates, pricing or platform specific DLC plans.
