Burden Of Command PC Game

The lives of your men depend on you. Will you make the right choices?

The X (formerly Twitter) community is one of the best out there for video games, especially indie games, because it lets you connect closely with developers right from the start of a project. That’s exactly what happened to me with Burden of Command by indie developer Green Tree Games. They were one of the first developers I connected with when TBL launched, and after a long journey, we’re finally close to a release date.

Anyway, Burden of Command is a fascinating strategy game that throws you into one of the toughest roles ever: being in command. This is especially intense when the decisions you make determine whether your team lives or dies.

The game put players in the role of a captain in the legendary 7th Infantry Regiment, known as the Cottonbalers, during World War II. Unlike traditional war games that focus primarily on weaponry and tactics, Burden of Command emphasizes the human element of warfare, challenging players with morally complex decisions that can change the course of the war. Drawing inspiration from titles like This War of Mine and Banner Saga, the game merges historical accuracy with deep emotional storytelling, making it a compelling experience for strategy enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, Burden of Command meticulously recreates historical battles and events, starting from North Africa in 1942 and spanning across Italy, France, and Germany through challenging scenarios. Players will navigate grid-based maps, making strategic movements and facing dynamic events that test their leadership and moral judgment.

The game features a unique Mindsets system where soldiers’ attributes reflect their psychological states rather than just physical prowess. High morale and trust in leadership can turn the tide of battle, making it crucial for commanders to inspire and maintain the confidence of their troops. Collaborating with renowned game designers like Chris Avellone and Alexis Kennedy, Green Tree Games has crafted a rich narrative experience that deeply immerses players in the psychological burdens of command during one of history’s most tumultuous periods.

Burden Of Command finally has a release window set for Q1 2025 on PC via Steam. Below are some screens and the trailer.
