Owlcat Games and developer Emotion Spark Studio have set the release date for Rue Valley, a new isometric narrative RPG revealed during Gamestar’s gamescom 2025 showcase.
Rue Valley takes inspiration from narrative-driven RPGs such as Disco Elysium, but its premise adds a distinctive twist. The story follows a man trapped in a time loop, forced to confront not only the mystery behind the anomaly but also the darker corners of his own mind.
Each reset reshapes not only what can be done but who the protagonist becomes, with player choices feeding into a personality profile that shifts the way he interacts with the world.
The Rue Valley Motel serves as the heart of the experience, a place where characters burdened with their own struggles reveal more of themselves across repeated encounters.
The decisions players make will unlock new dialogue options, memories, and behavioral patterns, encouraging experimentation with different personalities across loops.
One cycle might see the character hardened and withdrawn, while another could transform him into a brash extrovert. These shifts directly affect story progression and relationships, making each attempt at breaking the loop feel unique.
To support this design, Rue Valley introduces a memory graph system that lets players preserve key recollections across resets. These fragments unlock new mindsets, offering tools to navigate conversations and uncover clues about the anomaly that has locked the Rue Valley Motel in its endless cycle.
Combined with its comic book-inspired art direction, influenced by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the layered look of Disco Elysium, the result is a visually distinct setting for its psychological storytelling.
Alongside the release date reveal, Owlcat Games highlighted a recently announced partnership with the mental health charity Movember. While details of the collaboration have not been fully outlined, the connection aligns with Rue Valley’s themes of internal struggle and emotional resilience.
The game will arrive on PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on November 11, 2025, and a demo is also available to try. Below is the Release Date Trailer.
