New Trailer Unveiled at Galaxies Gaming Showcase
Shadow of the Road resurfaced at the Galaxies Autumn 2025 Showcase with a new gameplay trailer, confirming Owlcat Games as publisher and Another Angle Games as developer and putting its Japanese-steampunk pitch back in the spotlight.

The trailer frames a civil war at the end of the Tokugawa era and leans on the push-pull between tradition and industrial modernity, which the team pairs with a turn-based, party-based CRPG structure.
The story is set in 1868, with Shōgun Tokugawa’s forces battling Emperor Mutsuhito’s technologically backed army, aided by a corporate presence called the British East Nippon Company.

This alt-history twist explains the mix of samurai steel, yōkai, and smoke-belching machinery on screen. The campaign opens with Tokugawa’s spymaster recruiting rōnin Satoru and Akira to protect a boy whose uncontrolled power could tip the conflict.
Choices gate how relationships evolve, forming bonds, breaking them, or mending old ties, and the cast’s personal goals feed into combat and narrative outcomes.

Each party member brings distinct abilities and social dynamics that can alter encounter flow, encouraging players to build a squad that suits both preferred tactics and role-play. The enemies include steampunk constructs alongside folklore creatures, giving encounters mixed resistances and threat profiles to plan around.
There’s no release date yet, but PC is confirmed via Steam, and a playable demo is live now. If you want a feel for the combat tempo and early narrative beats, the demo download sits directly on the store page, while below the new trailer.
