Frosthaven’s first major Early Access update is live. Awakening Protocol arrives as a free download on Steam and the Epic Games Store, adding a new story arc, more heroes, and a round of fixes aimed at smoothing co-op play and early progression.

The headline addition is a narrative thread built around the Unfettered, an ancient machine civilization that’s reactivating under a determined leader.
Alongside the storyline, the patch introduces three new playable heroes, five bosses, more than 18 additional quests, a Town Hall building with eight upgrades, over 40 new items, a new Challenges system, and Job Postings that function as Town Hall–issued side quests. It also refreshes the main menu with a seasonal theme.
Under the hood, Snapshot has targeted desyncs and soft locks, especially around the Undo feature and multiplayer sessions.

Door tiles no longer block movement, the tutorial flow is steadier, and several class card visuals and tooltips have been corrected. It’s the kind of stability pass co-op tactics need, particularly when turns hinge on sequencing and tight action economy.
Frosthaven is the digital adaptation of Isaac Childres’ acclaimed board game, developed by Snapshot Games and published by Arc Games.
It’s a dark-fantasy tactical RPG with card-driven, turn-based combat, six starting classes (Banner Spear, Boneshaper, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade, Deathwalker) and more to unlock, plus an outpost you can build and upgrade between scenario-based missions. The campaign supports solo play and 2–4 player online co-op
It entered Early Access on July 31, 2025, priced at $39.99 at launch. The plan is to expand toward a 1.0 release in 2026, with major content drops along the way. Today’s update is the first step on that roadmap.

If you want a quick look before jumping back in, a new trailer accompanies the patch. It teases the Unfettered facilities and the boss roster while hinting at how the new objectives and side jobs slot into town building and party growth.
Awakening Protocol is available now on PC via Steam and Epic; existing players can update immediately, and newcomers can start fresh with the current Early Access build and these additions in place.
