Beaten Path Announced

Beaten Path, the turn-based tactical RPG from Peacebreak Studio, is heading to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2027, with Wales Interactive joining as publisher. Taking inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem, the game features grid-based battles, a dual job system, and a fully explorable overworld between encounters.

Combat uses an action point system, with elevation and elemental affinities influencing how you approach each encounter.

Two mechanics give you specific reasons to coordinate your units: flanking enemies can trigger Sync attacks, while exploiting weaknesses can inflict Break. There is also plenty to experiment with when developing your party.

Peacebreak Studio lists 25+ recruitable characters, 250+ abilities, and 100+ weapons across 10 weapon classes. The dual job system lets each unit equip two jobs, each with its own skill tree, stat growth, resistances, and vulnerabilities. Equippable traits provide additional stat bonuses, while unlockable outfits add some visual customization.

Outside combat, the adventure takes you across a 3D overworld on foot, horseback, and by ship. Changing weather, optional discoveries, and narrative events accompany those journeys, with hidden lore scattered throughout the world.

The Haven serves as the party’s hub, providing shops and opportunities to speak with companions through conversations that change as the adventure progresses.

The story follows Panna and her companions through a setting populated by fallen gods and ancient machines. Panna’s missing memories are tied to a forgotten war and a mysterious cycle of repeating events, with old allies and ruined machinery holding clues to her involvement. It is a character-driven premise in which the party gradually pieces together what happened before.

Beaten Path had been in development for almost five years by the time the publishing partnership was announced, having expanded considerably beyond his original plans.

An announcement trailer accompanies the news, and the game is available to wishlist on Steam. A specific release date within 2027 has not yet been announced.
