The latest overview explains Down Gauges, FP management, Bloom Arts, boss encounters, and character progression ahead of the August launch.

I know this isn’t a traditional turn-based RPG, but since the game features a slowdown mechanic that lets you choose your skills, I decided to include the promising action RPG Beast of Reincarnation on my pages.

News is that publisher Fictions and developer Game Freak have released a new Combat Overview trailer for Beast of Reincarnation, offering a closer look at how the upcoming action RPG combines fast swordplay with a more tactical, command-driven layer.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026, the story follows Emma, a girl infected by the blight she has been tasked with fighting, and Koo, a blighted dog who accompanies her across the ruined country.

Emma handles the real-time side of each encounter, attacking with her katana, avoiding incoming strikes, and looking for opportunities to parry. Enemies have both health and Down Gauges, with the latter opening them up to a takedown once broken. Successful parries also restore FP, turning defensive timing into an important resource in the game.

FP can then be spent on Koo’s special techniques, known as Bloom Arts. Opening Koo’s command menu slows the action, giving players time to examine the battlefield and choose an appropriate ability.

The trailer demonstrates Bloom Arts capable of pressuring Down Gauges, targeting enemy weaknesses, controlling multiple opponents, and creating further attacking opportunities for Emma. This produces a combat rhythm in which Emma’s attacks and parries generate the resources needed to bring Koo into the fight.

The system also applies to larger encounters. Emma and Koo will face groups of enemies as well as colossal blighted bosses called Nushi, whose attacks and scale place greater pressure on parry timing, and the use of companion skills.

Defeating these major creatures grants the pair additional combat techniques, gradually expanding the number of combinations available throughout the journey.

Progression will provide additional ways to shape both characters. The overview touches on skill-tree development, while the wider customization system includes different katanas for Emma, Charms for Koo, and Spirit Stones that apply bonuses based on actions performed during battle.

Loadouts can be built around aggressive swordplay, ranged options, stealth, or other specialized approaches.

Although Beast of Reincarnation is not a traditional turn-based RPG, Koo’s command interface introduces deliberate decision-making into its action-heavy encounters. Slowing time to select Bloom Arts gives players an opportunity to assess threats and plan their next move, while Emma’s parries and attacks determine how frequently those tactical options become available.

Beast of Reincarnation launches on August 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also be available through Game Pass on release day.
