If you’ve got the work-week blues, why not grab a new turn-based game to play? Steam always has some sales going on, and I’ve found some great deals on RPGs and strategy games to share with you. Some of these games don’t go on sale as often as others, either, so it’s a good chance to grab that one that’s been on your Wishlist for a while.

Wargroove & Wargroove 2

If you love Advance Wars, then Wargroove‘s colorful, pixelated tactical battles will be a real treat. There are no tanks and rifle squads here, though; Wargroove has a classic fantasy feel, while the sequel sets sail for pirate-themed adventure!
These are some seriously fun SRPGs, and Steam has them discounted 60% and 40%, respectively, until 31 July. Normally $19.99 each, you can get Wargroove for $7.99 and Wargroove 2 for $11.99, or buy the bundle linked above for $17.98 and save even more!
Suikoden I & II Remaster

Suikoden is one of the foundational JRPGs of the PS1 era, and a must-play for anyone interested in the classics.

Othercide

Othercide is one of the biggest discounts available for turn-based strategy games this week, down an incredible 90% on Steam until 30 July. It’s normally $29.99, but you can get it for just $2.99 during the sale period, and maybe throw in the Dressed To Kill cosmetics pack for $1.99 if you want!
Coromon

If you’re a fan of classic Pokemon, you’ll love Coromon‘s take on nostalgic monster-catching gameplay. Its unique set of creatures, along with a new type chart to master and tons of customization options, make it a blast for newbies and veteran trainers alike. There’s even a built-in Randomizer and Nuzlocke mode for players seeking an extra challenge!
Coromon is a worthy buy at its usual price of $19.99, but until 23 July you can get it on Steam for just $4.99, saving 75%. It’s also available in a few different bundles, including some alongside the delightful, colorful RPG LunarLux!
Pathway

1930s pulp adventure makes for great strategy RPGs; quick-thinking heroes using the environment to even the odds are a perfect complement to the kind of thoughtful, turn-based gameplay where one wrong move can spell disaster.
Pathway is exactly that, with strange artifacts, forgotten tombs, and lovely pixel graphics all thrown in for good measure!
Steam has Pathway for just $4.79 until 31 July, a 70% discount off its standard price of $15.99. It’s also available as part of several bundles with other strategy games, including Wargroove.
Wander Stars

Taking inspiration from classic anime, Wander Stars is a roguelite martial arts adventure where you craft your attacks on the fly in battle. By stringing words together, you create customized moves to meet the situation at hand as you fight strange and powerful opponents in your search for the Wanderstar Map.
Wander Stars has a free demo available on Steam. If you like it (and there’s a lot to like), you can get the full game for just $12.49, saving 50%. You’ll need to act fast, though, as the price goes back up to $24.99 on 26 July.
Anoxia Station

Strategy puzzlers are always a good time, and Anoxia Station brings a level of tense challenge normally reserved for survival games like Frostpunk.
As the overseer of an underground mining station in a post-apocalyptic world, you’ll have to dig for resources while dealing with the terrifying creatures that live below the surface.
Normally priced at $14.99, Anoxia Station is very reasonable to begin with. Right now, though, you can get it for $8.99 on Steam, saving 40%, or get it bundled with other titles from publisher Abylight like One Military Camp.
Away From Home

If you like your RPGs colorful, artistic, and weird, then you need to check out Away From Home. Between its beautiful pixel art, strange world, and rhythm-based battles, it’s far from your standard tale, and it’s loaded with side quests and lovingly crafted animations that make it well worth exploring.
You can try the demo on Steam for free, but the full game isn’t all that expensive, especially right now. Normally priced at $17.99, Away From Home is 35% off until 29 July, dropping it down to $11.69.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown

Lots of us have fond memories of TMNT‘s various arcade beat-em-ups, but this is a site for turn-based games, so the Heroes on the Half-Shell don’t make a lot of appearances here.
Or at least, they didn’t until last year’s Tactical Takedown, which lets you direct Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo in turn-based battles against the Foot Clan that look and feel like a board game!
This radical dose of nostalgia is 35% off on Steam, taking the price down from $19.99 to just $12.99. It’s also offered with several different bundles, including some stranger games like Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator.
Songs of Conquest

Olden Era has been getting a lot of attention over the last few months, but Lavapotion’s glorious spiritual successor to Heroes of Might and Magic deserves plenty of love too.
With its innovative magic system, unique factions, and excellent pixel art, it’s a wonderful blend of classic and modern gameplay that’s a worthy addition to any HOMM fan’s collection.
Now is a great time to try Songs of Conquest, as the base game is just $7.49 on Steam until 1 August. That’s a 75% discount off the regular price of $29.99, and includes the four base factions along with their campaigns. The Factions Bundle includes the game plus three DLC factions, while the Complete Bundle also adds the Rise Eternal campaign and Digital Artbook.

The Land Beneath Us feels a bit different from your average roguelite, bridging the gap between real-time action and turn-based tactics.
As a soul-harvesting robot, your task is to conquer the underworld, moving one tile at a time. Moving in the right combinations will trigger powers, so you need to plan ahead and be ready for your opponents’ moves… and like any good roguelite, you can always start a new run if things go wrong!

Absolute Tactics: Daughters of Mercy

You can see right away that Absolute Tactics takes inspiration from SRPG greats like Final Fantasy Tactics, but between its hand-drawn characters, giant bosses, and dark world, it quickly carves out a niche of its own.
With 21 classes (not to mention dual-classing), enormous battles, and postgame content including Hardcore Mode, there’s a lot to love in this RPG adventure… plus you get a dog!
Absolute Tactics is 40% off on Steam until 26 July, down from $24.99 to $14.99. The Deluxe Edition, which includes the artbook and soundtrack, is also discounted, dropping from $30.57 to $18.33. You can also get the game bundled with Tyrant’s Blessing, another excellent isometric SRPG.
Heart of the Machine

Heart of the Machine is tough to describe but easy to love. It’s a 4X game where you play the first sentient AI, learning and deciding what sort of being you want to become as you expand the city that you oversee.

Having come out of Early Access this spring, Heart of the Machine is on sale for a very generous 60% off now through 30 July. If you’ve had your eye on this neat, high-concept strategy game but $29.99 wasn’t in the budget, now is your chance to get it for $11.99.
Prophecy of Ashen

Normally just $9.99, Prophecy of Ashen is down to just $5.79 on Steam until 30 July, a discount of 42%. It’s also offered with several different bundles, including one with clever inventory-management RPG Backpack Dungeon.
Skautfold: Knight’s End

Knight’s End might be the end of the Skautfold saga, but it’s also the culmination of its battle system.
This game encourages you to play defensively, using the correct guards until the right moment to strike presents itself. Along with the game’s dark, eldritch-horror atmosphere, it makes a fitting conclusion to the series.
Skautfold: Knight’s End is 75% off on Steam, dropping from $9.99 to just $2.49, but the deal is only good for a few more hours as of the time of this writing. If you miss it, you can still get a discount by bundling the Skautfold and Granser series together, getting the whole thing for $44.94, a 25% savings.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord

Another “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” deal is for the remake of one of the most important games ever made. Wizardry has been cited as the inspiration for countless classics, including Final Fantasy, and unless you have an old Apple II that still works, this is the best way to play it.
Steam has Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord at 65% off, taking it from $34.99 down to $12.24, but like Skauthold above, the sale is almost over. It’s worth noting that the Steam version is $5 cheaper than the Switch version by default, so if you don’t want to wait for another sale, that’s the more economical option.
Every Day We Fight

It might not be XCOM 3, but Every Day We Fight has all the tactical crunchiness you could want in battling an alien invader.
Not only does it borrow some neat ideas like Phoenix Point‘s first-person shooting option, but it also puts your band of resistance fighters in a time loop, determined to learn with each attempt how best to stop the extraterrestrial menace.
Every Day We Fight is in Early Access, so we won’t be surprised if the price goes up later. Right now its standard price is $29.99, but until 23 July Steam has it discounted 50% to $14.99. It’s also part of the Hooded Horse Sci-Fi Strategy Bundle with Breachway and Nebulous, all discounted to a total of just $29.97, if you’re looking for some extra value.
Lords of Ravage

There aren’t many games that we’d say everyone should play at least once, but Into The Breach fits the bill.
