Nemire’s free Deathbringer expansion is live, bringing a new playable unit and a round of mechanical tweaks aimed squarely at friction points called out in player feedback.
The Deathbringer is a frontline undead who specializes in melee and sustains by draining human life.

Alongside the new unit, the update adds an optional blood effect that paints tiles (off by default via settings), tighter unit cycling on TAB for faster turn flow, proper path-blocking so units can’t walk through enemies, smarter enemy behavior when they can’t reach your squad, and a new “Destroy target” mission where the objective is a single, high-health structure.
The developer frames it as a free content expansion plus quality-of-life pass rather than a balance micro-patch.

For anyone new to it, Nemire is a turn-based tactical RPG about commanding an undead warband as an immortal warlord. You are a necromancer, and your job is to collect human essence to summon more undead, then push those squads through tile-based battles against human factions and their leaders.
It’s a PC release from solo developer Egidijus Adomaitis (who also publishes under the Shattering Pie label). The project launched on Steam in 2024 and has been iterated on since.

Mechanically, the base game emphasizes squad building with evolving units and “random unit traits” that modify how standard attacks and abilities behave, so two skeletons built from different runs can play differently.
Maps mix handcrafted scenarios with procedural generation, and progression ramps difficulty over time while feeding new abilities into the kit. It’s single-player and pitched as a compact, replayable tactics experience.

Nemire has also seen regular feature drops prior to this week’s patch. Earlier updates introduced new class abilities, Berserker’s Berserk (parry and counter in an area), Mage’s Storm Step (tile teleport with AoE damage), Warrior’s Deflection (temporary invulnerability with projectile reflect), and Archer’s Human Trap (a high-damage snare).
The new “Destroy target” mission type arrived with the Deathbringer update after being previewed in development notes.
The Deathbringer expansion is available now on PC via Steam as a free update on Steam; if you want a quick feel for the ruleset, there’s also a standalone demo.
