Songs Of Conquest Review

The battlefield of Songs of Conquest is about to get a lot greener—though not in the way you might expect. Lavapotion has officially revealed Roots, the next faction DLC for their strategy RPG, introducing a nightmarish blend of sentient vines, walking fungi, and reanimated husks. The faction is unlike anything seen before in Songs of Conquest, bringing a relentless, hive-mind-driven force to the game.

Songs Of Conquest Roots Faction

What Are the Roots?

Deep in the Wyldwood of the Bleak East, an ancient colony of flora and fungi thrives under the guidance of the enigmatic Tree Mothers. Unlike the other factions, the Roots do not consist of individuals with personal ambitions—they are a single, collective entity bound by a singular purpose: survival and expansion.

To interact with the world, the Roots create Vessels; corpses repurposed into emissaries with fragments of their former minds. However, the transformation is far from perfect. Most vessels emerge as mindless, vine-bound husks, serving as fearless, undying warriors on the battlefield.

The faction’s lore is deeply tied to the mysteries of Songs of Conquest. Where did they come from? Why did they leave their former home? And why does the feared Vildra despise them so much? Players will uncover these answers through two story-driven challenge maps, exploring the Roots’ origins and their place in the game’s rich world.

New Maps, Units, and Biomes

The DLC will introduce five Conquest maps, designed to showcase the Roots’ unique playstyle and dark, swamp-infested biome. Expect shadowed forests, creeping vines, and unsettling creatures lurking in the dense wilderness. Additionally, the game’s map editor will receive new environmental assets, allowing players to craft their own eerie, overgrown battlegrounds.

Release Window and Pricing Adjustments

While Roots is still a work in progress, Lavapotion is confident in a summer 2025 release. The team has also addressed past pricing concerns from the Vanir DLC launch, assuring players that Roots will follow a fairer regional pricing model.

With more Devlogs planned in the coming months—covering unit rosters, giant creeps, tactics, and new gameplay mechanics—there’s plenty to look forward to. Until then, strategy fans can wishlist the DLC now to stay updated on the latest developments. Below an overview about what’s inside the DLC.

About The DLC

Songs of Conquest’s second new faction has spread from deep within the Wyldwoods of the Bleak East. The Roots are ancient sentient colonies of flora, fungus, and the bones of dead heroes repurposed to serve the relentless expansion of the Wyldwoods. Grow your might, and spread your roots in five new conquest maps. Learn the ancient secrets of the forest. Command nine new Wielders, dead creatures, now infested and alive under the control of the Tree Mothers.

Included in The Roots faction DLC:

  • A new biome, the sentient forest of the Bleak East.
  • 8 troops with new traits and abilities
  • 9 Wielders with both new and old specializations
  • Their own unique way of handling Essence
  • Towns and settlements with new buildings
  • 5 new Conquest maps highlighting the new biome and faction
  • 2 new challenge maps to showcase the lore and test your skills
  • New Artifact sets

Owning the DLC does not exclude you from playing against others online, even if they don’t own the DLC, or vice versa.
