Here’s a roundup of all the new RPGs and turn-based strategy games released over the past few days, including any available demos and early access versions.
There are several noteworthy launches. The latest entry in The Legend of Heroes series clearly stands out, but don’t let that steal all your attention; there are plenty of indie titles worth a closer look, along with a strong selection of demos for projects you’ve almost certainly never heard of.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon
- Developers: Nihon Falcom, PH3 GmbH
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch
- Release Date: January 15, 2026
- Steam Page

As usual, I like to open my recap article with the most high-profile release, so it was only natural to start with The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon. It is the 2024/2026 JRPG from Nihon Falcom and the thirteenth main installment in the long-running Trails series, continuing the Calvard arc’s narrative after Trails Through Daybreak II.
Set in the expansive Republic of Calvard on the continent of Zemuria, the game weaves together three protagonists, including Van Arkride, Rean Schwarzer, and Kevin Graham, as they confront political intrigue, technological marvels, and looming threats to the world’s future while exploring richly detailed towns and landscapes.
It features evolved strategic combat that blends real-time and turn-based mechanics with new systems like Shard Commands and Awakening, deep character interactions, and a narrative driven by exploration and connections with allies, making it a substantial and rewarding experience for fans of thoughtful, story-heavy RPGs.
Archon Soul: Prologue
- Developers: PolyGryph
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 12, 2026
- Steam Page

The next one is Archon Soul. An upcoming 2D roguelike dice-builder from PolyGryph where strategic customization and tactical decision-making are at the core of every run. The game debuted this week with a free prologue worth checking out.
Players construct and upgrade powerful dice using a combination of swappable faces, runes, and bodies, each with unique effects, to form potent synergies that define combat performance.
Across procedurally generated encounters and the perilous halls of the Archon’s palace, you’ll draft spells, adapt to events, and face off against challenging enemies and bosses in turn-based battles, testing your builds and choices as you push through multiple acts toward the coveted Archon Soul.
The full release promises dozens of spells, multiple playable mage archetypes, and thousands of possible dice combinations, blending deckbuilding and roguelike elements into a deep, replayable strategy experience.
Primus Numen (Demo)
- Developers: ACLH Studios
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: TBA
- Steam Page

It’s the first time I heard about Primus Numen, which is now available as a demo. It is an upcoming dark-fantasy, turn-based tactical RPG from ACLH Studios that blends classic grid-based strategy with deep party synergy and evolving character powers.
Set across handcrafted battlefields, from shadowy forests to crumbling ruins, players command a diverse cast of heroes whose coordinated attacks unlock powerful combo effects and cinematic finishers, while positioning, terrain, and enemy abilities shape every engagement.
Central to its design is the mysterious Nexus Beast, a transformative entity forged by the party’s bond that evolves throughout combat, offering high-risk, high-reward tactical choices.
The dev talks about inspirations from titles like Final Fantasy Tactics and Suikoden, as the game emphasizes strategic depth, emotional storytelling, and customizable class progression, though it’s still in development with a coming soon release on Steam.
Deep Fringe (E.A.)
- Developers: Bosoneon Studio
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 15, 2026
- Steam Page

One of the titles I’ve been keeping an eye on the longest, and that really has me intrigued this week, is Deep Fringe.
This gritty turn-based tactical RPG set in a biopunk, post-apocalyptic wasteland debuted in early access, and it asks players to lead rival factions through brutal grid-based battles and exploit an interactive terrain system that allows them to modify, destroy, or reshape the battlefield for strategic advantage.
The game blends classic tactical depth with environmental manipulation, forcing you to position your squad carefully, leverage cover and elevation, and use unique character compositions and powerful upgrades to overcome hordes of mutated enemies and hostile forces while advancing through its looming world.
Early Access on Steam kicks off with a primary single-player campaign and an integrated level editor that supports custom content creation and sharing, with future updates planned to expand multiplayer, mod support, and narrative content. For sure, one that I recommend to try.
Oberion: Arena Arcana (Demo)
- Developers: Daniel Martinez Martinez
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: TBA
- Steam Page

Another title I was completely unfamiliar with, but that has now made a demo available is Oberion: Arena Arcana. A narrative-driven tactical RPG that blends storytelling with turn-based strategy and card/ability progression in a tabletop-inspired format.
Players navigate an unfolding fantasy tale narrated alongside a living board that alters scenes and environments as the story progresses, while engaging in both PvE story battles and PvP duels with a roster of heroes and unique abilities.
Matches center on selecting up to three heroes, equipping them with ability cards and gear, and leveraging tactical placement and strategic choices to outplay AI or human opponents, earning resources to unlock further upgrades.
With a mix of quick duels and deeper story chapters woven into its structure, Oberion: Arena Arcana aims to offer both bite-sized competitive play and a rich, unfolding campaign once it launches on Steam.
Monster Path
- Developers: The Indie Accord
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 10, 2026
- Steam Page

Diving into a monster-filled JRPG adventure, Monster Path blends roguelite progression with turn-based combat and creature collection in a 2.5D fantasy world. To be honest, the game was released last week, but since I missed it, it’s here now.
Players explore procedurally generated paths across multiple biomes, befriending and stacking the abilities of 35+ unique monsters to build a powerful party and tackle strategic battles, while choosing fights and rewards that shape both your progression and ending.
Alongside quests, dynamic encounters, and over 100 combat moves, the game emphasizes risk-vs-reward decisions, replayability, and strategic build variety as you push toward multiple possible conclusions.
Monster Path launched on Steam in January 2026 with a generally positive reception and ongoing updates that expand its roster and systems.
Born from the Soil (Demo)
- Developers: Powersnake
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: 2027
- Steam Page

This is honestly one of the titles that caught my attention the most, thanks to that strong ’80s–’90s throwback vibe.
Set in a gritty post-apocalyptic wasteland, Born from the Soil is a squad-based turn-based tactics game that marries classic strategic combat with the charm of 16-bit visuals and modern gameplay polish.
Players lead a band of roaming bikers across a ravaged future, tackling nonlinear missions filled with hostile encounters, destructible environments, and branching choices that shape each campaign.
The title emphasizes aggressive, gear-driven tactics, extensive customization of units and vehicles, and a stylized retro aesthetic inspired by pulp sci-fi and desert-punk motifs as you scavenge for resources, upgrade your squad, and carve out your place in the wasteland. Born from the Soil is in development, with a planned Steam release in 2027 and a demo available now.
Sovereign Tower (Demo)
- Developers: WILD WITS
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: August 2026
- Steam Page

From the team behind Aetheris, a genuinely compelling tactical RPG from 2023 that’s worth revisiting, and the more recent, highly stylish Crown Gambit, comes an equally stylish title with far more ambitious and complex foundations: Sovereign Tower.
It invites you to rule from the pinnacle of a magical tower in a richly narrative management RPG where every decision shapes the fate of your kingdom and its people.
As Sovereign, you recruit and manage a quirky cast of Knights with distinct personalities, assign them on quests, balance competing factions and egos at your Round Table, and expand your domain by unlocking new tower annexes and upgrades, all while navigating drama, alliances, romances, and rivalries that emerge from your choices.
The game also features a unique time-rewind mechanic that lets you revisit past decisions to uncover secrets or steer events toward a different destiny, blending narrative exploration with high-stakes strategy as you carve out your legacy in a hand-drawn fantasy world; it’s slated for release on Steam in August 2026, and there’s a demo on its itch.io page.
Isekai Adventure Guild (E.A.)
- Developers: Beard Bear
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 13, 2026
- Steam Page

Instead of a traditional hero’s quest, Isekai Adventurer Guild puts you in the boots of a guild master overseeing a roster of adventurers summoned from another world and guiding them through a series of SRPG roguelite quests and growth paths.
In Early Access now, the game combines strategic turn-based encounters with party management, letting you recruit, train, and equip a diverse cast of characters while tackling procedural dungeons and terrain-aware battles to earn rewards that expand your guild’s capabilities.
The roguelite structure emphasizes replayability; each run grants currency and upgrades that help both your guild and individual adventurers grow, while narrative and character stories unfold across quests to reveal deeper mysteries threatening the world they inhabit. A demo is also available if you want to try it.
Magic Forge Tycoon
- Developers: Clever Trickster Studio
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 13, 2026
- Steam Page

A small exception I allow myself from time to time, since it’s not strictly turn-based, but whether it’s the visual style or the original gameplay premise, something pushed me to highlight Magic Forge Tycoon anyway.
In this fantasy management sim, you are the master of an astral forge, where every enchanted sword, shield, and spear you craft ripples out to shape the fortunes of warring kingdoms.
Players balance resource markets, fulfill demanding contracts from rulers and nobles, and optimize their workshop’s production lines to create high-quality magical arms and gear that influence peace, conflict, and politics across the realm, strategically choosing what to make, when to sell, and how to grow their economic might.
Your success hinges on expanding your forge, unlocking advanced technologies and recipes, and mastering both trade and craftsmanship to become a legendary blacksmith whose creations leave a lasting mark on the world’s power struggles. Early Access on Steam launched on January 13, 2026.
Athelan Battlegrounds (Demo)
- Developers: Athelan Games
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: TBA
- Steam Page

I went into detail on it a few days ago, and in the past few hours, Athelan Battlegrounds has officially launched with a playable demo that throws players into its sci-fi, turn-based tactical PvP arena, where carefully planned moves and team composition decide the fate of entire civilizations.
Set in a retro-futuristic universe dominated by cosmic law, champions from warring planets square off in strategic 5v5 and 10v10 matches without meta progression or pay-to-win mechanics, emphasizing pure player skill above all.
The game supports both competitive online play and AI skirmishes, and includes built-in tools like a board editor, multiple layouts, and replay analysis to refine strategies, with developers aiming for a free-to-play experience focused on fair, balanced competition once it launches on Steam in 2026.
WindStop Strategy
- Developers: Xia Start
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: January 15, 2026
- Steam Page

Another very interesting title is WindStop Strategy., which places you in the role of SITU LaIye, the young master of the Hu Yan Men sect, whose peaceful life is shattered by a sudden massacre and betrayal, thrusting you into a sprawling turn-based strategy RPG where political intrigue and martial conflict define every choice.
The core gameplay revolves around region-suppressing tactics and resource management, as you expand your influence across the turbulent Windstop Valley, recruit and develop characters, and deploy strategic combos in battles that mix simulation and tactical turn-based encounters.
Since its Steam release on January 15 2026, the game has drawn mostly positive reactions for its layered mechanics and rich genre fusion, and includes full Steam Workshop mod support and deep customization options to extend strategy and replay value.
Kingdom Loop (Demo)
- Developers: RootGame
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: TBA
- Steam Page

And we wrap things up with yet another demo, this time for an intriguing genre hybrid called Kingdom Loop that merges deckbuilding, kingdom management, and turn-based tactical combat within an endless roguelike loop where every pass around a mystical ring road both strengthens your realm and escalates the challenges you face.
In a world torn by an ancient prophecy and conflict between humans and the undead, players recruit and evolve heroes, each with unique decks and abilities, gather resources, claim strategic tiles that influence their kingdom’s growth, and engage in escalating battles that test positioning and strategic depth as enemies grow stronger with every loop.
The game’s progression emphasizes high replayability through synergistic card and kingdom combos, powerful artifacts, and evolving strategies, with a demo available on Steam and the full release still forthcoming.
Those were all the new titles you can check out and try for yourself. As always, I’m looking forward to your feedback through my social pages and the new Reddit channel. Have an awesome weekend. Ciao
