Lavapotion teases an undead-themed story expansion following Kastus Maal’s rise and the fate of the Barony of Loth For Its HoMM-Inspired Strategy RPG.

Looks like Lavapotion doesn’t want to stop with its Heroes of Might and Magic-inspired Strategy RPG Songs of Conquest, which has returned from its winter break with exciting news about it.

Songs of Conquest New DLC

The studio has shared fresh details about its upcoming DLC, Rise Eternal, the next Tale in the game’s expanding universe. While there’s still no exact release date, the team promises it won’t be long before players can step, or perhaps limp, into the role of Kastus Maal, a scholar-turned-undead Wielder from the Barony of Loth.

Rise Eternal will consist of four interconnected, story-driven maps that follow Kastus’s rise from the grave and his pursuit of vengeance against those who destroyed his family.

The Tale picks up after the climactic Battle of Grey Tor, where Kastus fell during the Arleon campaign as Cecilia Stoutheart defeated the Barony of Loth. Now resurrected through his oath to Aurelia, Kastus returns as something far less mortal and far more dangerous.

Purchasing the Rise Eternal DLC will add Kastus Maal as a playable Wielder for the Barony of Loth.

Kastus Maal

He arrives with his own Specialization and a powerful new ability called Call the Faithful, which reinforces his devotion to Aurelia and allows him to summon allies in battle. The development team describes Kastus as a deeply layered character. A husband, father, and scholar, driven by both faith and personal conviction.

Alongside the new Tale, Rise Eternal introduces a collection of unique artifacts crafted specifically for Kastus.

These relics will play a key role in both gameplay and narrative progression, giving players new strategies to explore and a fresh layer of depth to Loth’s undead mechanics. Lavapotion has hinted that these artifacts will have special synergies and set bonuses, encouraging experimentation as the story unfolds.

In addition to the paid content, Lavapotion is including a generous batch of free updates for all Songs of Conquest players. These include new research options, access to the new artifact sets, and a variety of additional map buildings.

These tools will give map creators even more freedom to design unique and complex custom campaigns, which has long been one of the community’s favorite features.

Lavapotion has divided its developers into smaller groups to work in parallel, one focused on this undead-themed Tale and another on a brand-new faction DLC that will follow later. The studio’s roadmap points to Rise Eternal as the next major milestone for Songs of Conquest, likely arriving in early spring 2026 if production stays on schedule.

What makes Kastus Maal such a compelling lead is the way his story bridges the game’s existing lore. His death at Grey Tor marked a turning point in the conflict between Arleon and Loth, and his return allows players to see that same war through the eyes of the defeated.

By making Kastus both a tragic and formidable figure, Lavapotion continues its tradition of writing morally complex characters set against the backdrop of conquest, faith, and decay.

The developers have chosen not to reveal too many visuals just yet, preferring to keep certain surprises under wraps until closer to launch. “Some surprises are best left unspoiled,” the team wrote, teasing that there’s plenty left to unearth, literally and figuratively.

You can wishlist Songs of Conquest – Rise Eternal on Steam to stay updated on its release. When it launches, it will mark the next step in Lavapotion’s ongoing plan to expand the world of Songs of Conquest through modular, story-focused Tales and larger faction DLCs.
