Bloodgrounds Demo Gets Its First Major Update with Tactical Tweaks and Player-Requested Fixes
The first major update for Bloodgrounds’ demo is here, and it’s packed with meaningful changes based entirely on player feedback. Exordium Games has taken community suggestions seriously, fine-tuning core systems and introducing quality-of-life improvements to enhance both the tactical combat and city-building layers of their upcoming turn-based RPG.

This update addresses a wide range of issues, including balance tuning, new mechanics, visual clarity, and bug fixes. The result is a smoother, more readable, and more strategic demo experience that should better reflect the full game’s ambitions.
For those who don’t know, Bloodgrounds is a turn-based tactical RPG that blends brutal gladiatorial combat with city management and roguelite elements.
You play as a former slave turned wealthy patron, training and commanding a team of gladiators in deadly arena battles. Between fights, you’ll manage your city, recruit new warriors, build structures, and seek revenge against the empire that wronged you.
With permadeath, strategic choices, and a deep progression system, every decision counts both in and out of the arena. Now, let’s review all the improvements in the demo.
Dev Feedback Drives Change
Audience Quests, optional objectives that earn player favor during battles, have been significantly rebalanced. Fourteen of them were simplified to reduce complexity and improve pacing.

Players also noticed that some status effects, like Burn and Frost, were dragging on for too long. These no longer persist between fights, removing an unnecessary layer of punishment and helping each battle feel like a fresh start.
New Tactical Tools and Battle Pickups
The update adds new pickups to the arena, including the Favor of Cleansing, which clears negative status effects, and the Favor of Protection, granting temporary invincibility. These additions provide players with more ways to adapt mid-fight and introduce another layer of tactical risk and reward.
To improve decision-making, tactical visibility tools have been expanded. Players can now hold F to preview any unit’s movement range, and the battlefield will show hazard warnings along movement paths, a helpful addition in an arena filled with traps and lingering effects.
City Management Gets Smarter
Managing your city and gladiators is now more intuitive. You can reroll stat choices when leveling up (at a gold cost), giving you more control over your team’s development.

Notifications throughout the city, from new recruits at the Inn to available quests and academy upgrades, are now clearly marked, making it easier to navigate the many layers of Bloodgrounds’ strategy loop.
The graveyard system has also been clarified, with new tooltip explanations and visual indicators when equipment is waiting to be retrieved. A small change, but one that strengthens the permadeath aspect that defines Bloodgrounds’ high-stakes gameplay.
Battle UX Improvements
Combat has become more readable across the board. There are new indicators for critical hits, evades, luck-based saves, and status changes.
Pathing defaults to safer routes (with the option to toggle back to speedier ones), and tooltip clarity for unit stats, abilities, and effects has been improved. Directional abilities, such as Vindicta, now rotate more accurately, and targeting bugs have been addressed.

Animations have also been fixed for cases such as enemy attacks of opportunity, helping to keep the action clear and satisfying.
Bug Fixes and AI Smarts
On the bug-fix side, the team resolved a range of issues, including misbehaving tooltips, missing UI elements, and odd behavior in dialog sequences. Challenges, map visibility, and ability descriptions have all been tweaked for better consistency.
Meanwhile, AI behavior has received a boost. Enemies now consider things like attacks of opportunity and their remaining HP before charging into danger. Even the Age 1 boss now uses a broader set of abilities instead of spamming the same move repeatedly.
A Stronger Demo and a Better Foundation
Exordium Games calls this just the beginning, and they’re asking players to keep the feedback coming as they continue refining the game ahead of its planned 2025 release. For those who haven’t tried it yet, the Bloodgrounds demo is still live on Steam.
If you’re into grid-based tactics, roguelite RPG elements, and managing a team of brutal gladiators fighting for survival and revenge, this one might be worth a look. Below you can find the gameplay trailer.
