This intriguing RPG, clearly inspired by Ogre Battle but with a roguelite twist, has recently shared updates about its release date, so I figured it’d be useful to do a recap of what this formation-management RPG actually is.

To The Grave: The Wildlands of Faenora is a compact, turn-based tactics roguelite that emphasizes formation management and repeat-run decision-making in a playful pixel-art world.

A wizard hands you a resurrection amulet, you chase a legendary gryphon across the Wildlands, you die, you come back, and you try again, carry-over knowledge and sharper squad building doing most of the heavy lifting between attempts.

Combat is built around a tight 3×3 grid that forces clear roles and quick mistakes. Front-row bruisers soak pressure while back-row archers and casters do the work, putting ranged units in front is explicitly flagged as a bad idea, and enemies have exploitable weaknesses you’re meant to probe.

Positioning, turn order, and target priority matter more than sprawling maps or long, attritional slogs, which gives each encounter a board-game snap.

Between fights, the roguelite structure kicks in. Runs branch across dynamic paths filled with event nodes, “cursed loot,” and shady NPCs who can swing a build from stable to chaotic in a click.

Party members can be promoted into new classes and kitted with weapons, armor, and trinkets. Unlock abilities, evolve roles, and course-correct a squad that’s always a couple of bad turns from collapse.

The primary objective in the demo centers on the gryphon hunt, though the Wildlands also seed bigger threats, a dragon and a corrupted, oversized bear are mentioned as run-enders waiting to pounce if your formation or economy falters.

Faenora’s tone is deliberately light, with isometric pixel art that sells cute first, corrupted second: huggable-looking monsters, saturated palettes, and a world that’s cheery until it isn’t.

Developed by 2TG Entertainment, it’s planned to launch into Early Access in 2026. Early Access targets a 6–12 month window to expand content, add classes, monsters, and items, and implement quality-of-life improvements. If you want a feel of the game, the standalone demo is available on Steam.
