The new Rising Lords DLC adds the war-torn nation of Atra, seven new units, a science system, and more tactical depth to the medieval strategy game.

The Pilgrim War is now live on Steam by the developers at Argonwood and Deck13 as a new DLC for Rising Lords, and it needs the base game to be played.

Rising Lords New DLC

This expansion of Rising Lords has a new campaign focused on the Southern Kingdoms of Atra and the long-standing religious conflict the southern regions have with the northern knights. In addition, this expansion pushes the turn-based battle system of Rising Lords in a different (more asymmetrical) way with a new faction and several other new unit types added as part of the new campaign.

Rising Lords allows players to create and manage their own medieval kingdoms, taking care of the kingdom’s finances with taxes and rations; managing production in their kingdom; building armies and engaging in diplomatic efforts; and using tactical grid-based systems to manage battle.

As such, there are opportunities for both single-player campaigns and multiplayer games using the same basic game system. It was the unique combination of these elements that originally drew attention to Rising Lords, and The Pilgrim War builds upon that foundation by adding new layers to both the campaign aspects and the actual battles.

Rising Lords

Atra represents the largest addition to The Pilgrim War. It is a new southern faction and comes with its own mechanics, buildings, and battlefield identity.

The expansion includes seven new units, six new maps for the “Scenario” mode (a special type of map), and a new story campaign based on Prince Matek, leader of one of the principalities invaded when an invasion fleet arrived on its shores.

Additionally, the expansion introduces a Science System that uses a large number of “specialization wheels.” These allow players to add more variety to their Dynasty and Army Composition over time.

The Science Layer is applicable to all factions in the game, both the new southern faction and the established northern knights, allowing seasoned players more flexibility to explore various combinations of army types and longer-term strategic decisions.

In terms of non-campaign content, The Pilgrim War provides additional customization and sandbox support.

The Pilgrim War is being offered for 15% off until April 28th. Therefore, instead of $9.99, it would cost you approximately $8.49. There is also a “Complete Edition Bundle” for purchase on Steam that combines the base game with The Pilgrim War. Also worth noting is that the base game for Rising Lords is currently 50% off until April 27. Below is the Launch trailer.
