I talked about it last week, and now Dead Mage has extended the playtest for Tale of Ronin to May 10, 2026.

This will give players about 5 days longer to experience the game’s current build and provide some additional time to provide their feedback. They have also provided a new trailer and confirmed that they continue to approve all access requests as they come in through the May 10 deadline.

The prior playtest announcement stated the playtest would be completed on May 5; therefore, this extends the testing period for Tale of Ronin slightly, allowing Dead Mage to receive some more player input during their continued development phase.

Tale of Ronin Exploration

Tale of Ronin, it is a narrative-based RPG from set within the world of early Edo Japan immediately following the fall of Osaka. The story revolves around Akira, a former Toyotomi samurai who embarks upon one last duty ordered by his former lord, to deliver a death poem to the Monk Takuan.

With that single task accomplished, Tale of Ronin moves forward as a travel/conversation/choice/consequence driven title, with character interactions influenced by your chosen responses – resulting in changing allegiances and increasing societal scrutiny due to Akira’s status as a ronin (master-less) in post-Osaka Japan.

Although still listed as coming soon, this extension provides another opportunity for those interested in a grounded samurai RPG with turn-based combat and greater focus on consequences to see where the project is today. Below is the new trailer.
