The latest Early Access update expands the campaign with the Lurker storyline, adds Coral and Kelp, and improves the Outpost with new tracking tools.

Arc Games and Snapshot Games announced today that they’ve released Into the Abyss (the third and final piece of major downloadable content) for their Early Access title, FrostHaven.

New update for Frosthaven

Into the Abyss was made available today on both the Steam platform and the Epic Game Store. The update will send players towards the Biting Sea and down into the depths of this underwater world as they move closer to completing their first full digital release.

The “Lurker” storyline begins when players are sent visions from a powerful artifact deep beneath the sea that is creating chaos among them. This sets up the Lurker storyline, which appears to be the last large scale storyline component for the Early Access version of Frost Haven. Alongside the addition of a new story segment, Snapshot is also adding two additional playable classes to the party builder, Coral and Kelp.

Coral focuses primarily on tide control and positioning in battle, and may appeal to fans of movement-based strategies such as position formation play.

Kelp focuses on stealth and executing opponents, and becomes stronger as you collect trophies from defeated foes. In addition to them, the developers are introducing Brummix, referred to as the “last and toughest pet to get.” For those who have been playing for some time, there is another secret to pursue.

However, while Into the Abyss does add more to the story, there are 23 new quests associated with the third major storyline element, two new biomes, four new bosses, multiple new items and interactions with existing items, and nine new Town Hall Challenges.

There are also several features that can assist in tracking your progress through the campaign. These include a calendar function, a notification function, and an event log. All of these functions will help track your progress through each of the different stages of the outpost phase of the campaign.

Other improvements include increasing readability and reducing pace issues. Some examples of this include the ability to select your original Blinkblade card layout instead of a standard design, better clarity with regard to how modifiers affect your combat experience, enhanced information about your quests, and modifications to the retirement process for characters in order to reduce disruptions to your multiplayer sessions. Also included in this update is voiceover support for all currently active in-game events.

As a digital adaptation of Gloomhaven, Frosthaven includes single-player gameplay options and online co-op capabilities, card-driven combat mechanics, unlocked classes, and a building aspect where you build up an outpost as you complete various segments of the campaign.
