Great news for PlayStation owners with a Plus subscription. One of this year’s biggest turn-based JRPGs has just arrived in its catalog. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, the spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, landed on PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, making it an ideal pick for those who have a soft spot for party-based role-playing games.
Developed under the watchful eye of Yoshitaka Murayama, the original creator of Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle captures that nostalgic energy of old-school JRPGs. Its biggest draw is its massive roster of recruitable heroes, 120 in total, and the unique interplay between party members that can unlock special combo attacks in battle.
This gives the game a rewarding sense of exploration and discovery as you piece together your ideal team. The main campaign lasts roughly 48 hours, but completionists can expect closer to 100 hours if they pursue every character, side activity, and hidden secret.
Although the game doesn’t quite match the depth of its predecessors and has some dated design elements, it shines in its exploration, character recruitment, and old-school charm. Its crowdfunding campaign was one of the biggest in Kickstarter history, and despite some flaws, it’s worth checking out for JRPG enthusiasts looking for a summer journey.
