It could be the return of a great JRPG series from the past.
There was already a rumor in 2023, but the recent trademark registration of Skies of Arcadia and Eternal Arcadia by SEGA reignited fans’ hopes for a revival of this beloved Japanese RPG classic. Originally released on the Dreamcast in 2000 and later on the GameCube as Skies of Arcadia Legends, the game has achieved cult status thanks to its adventurous story, memorable cast, and its air-pirate-themed world. News of the registration, made public on January 24, has quickly sparked discussions about Sega’s potential plans for the series.
Despite the renewed interest, there is currently no official confirmation of a specific project tied to the title. The trademark registration could signal the development of a remaster, remake, or even a sequel, but it is too early to make definitive assumptions. Fans’ excitement, however, is undeniable, with many eager to revisit the adventure on modern platforms without relying on emulation.
Skies of Arcadia was first launched on October 5, 2000, in Japan, followed by its North American and European releases in November 2000 and April 2001, respectively. Set in a fantastical world of floating islands and endless skies, the game follows Vyse, a young Blue Rogue air pirate, and his crew on a mission to stop the Valuan Empire from awakening ancient creatures known as Gigas. Over two decades later, the enduring love for the title highlights its significance in the history of JRPGs. We will wait for more information.
